The Federal Trade Commission cracked down on AdultFriendFinder.com, a site known for its pornographic pop-up ads. The site (recently rumored to have been purchased for an excessive amount by a buyer that could be Penthouse) reached a settlement with the FTC on the issue. Without admitting guilt, AdultFriendFinder.com agreed to alter its marketing so that the pop-up ads don’t turn up unexpectedly on people’s computers. One of the main complaints from people has been that the pop-ups expose their children to porn. A bigger concern of the FTC was the fact that spyware was embedded in the pop-ups without the consent of users. The new agreement is designed to ensure that customers must opt-in to receiving advertisements and can file complaints immediately on the site. No fines were imposed as part of the settlement.
