Georgia Tech scientists have spent a good chunk of time in recent months studying methods of using high radio frequencies to wirelessly transmit data at super fast speeds. It looks like they’re on track; they hope to have the file transfer hardware on the market in 2009. The scientists are currently working on prototypes for a chip that can be inserted into computers and mobile devices to allow them this capability. Currently, they are working on keeping the cost of this chip around the $5 mark to make it viable in the market where it competes with technologies like ultra-wideband. Of course, both of these work only within short range distances.
