grrrrrr.....
on an aside, this past month, Comcast ended a promo-period rate i had for broadband, because i now am.. and i quote "In a Verizon FiOS Service Area"
this is not true, and was confirmed by Verizon, as they haven't run the fiber yet.... but... what business is it of Comcast's?

You've been waiting 2 years? I've been waiting since 2002 or 2003 when they were still in the planning stages. Luckily for me they went live here last month, and my install date is set for 11/20. You'll get it eventually, don't worry.

| Re: Move Faster!! said by Jodokast96 : They may be cherry picking, but not around here. When Verizon started deploying FIOS in NH they started in towns with economic potential (of course) and also where ready access to long distance backbone fiber existed.
Installing FIOS is not just a matter of wiring up the area they also need to connect to the backbone.
I assume decision to deploy FIOS is a complex mix of business, engineering and manpower planning.

| No kidding. Would love to have it in my area already.
Not that I don't know it's kind of a big job. It took government funding and help to create the original telephone infrastructure. Perhaps something similar would be called for in this case. | |

| Re: 2010 just because a major inter backbone runs through a city doesn't mean it is easy to share to the end users. from what i know, the problem in getting the high speed lines the end user is more in the cost of deploying and upgrading the last few miles, not necessarily the pipe from a central office to a internet back bone. sure it is easier to make the pipe from the central office to the internet backbone bigger since you only need to run a few cables and a long trench. the other side may require many many seperate cables and man-hours to deploy a new infrastructure along new equipment. it becomes a lot easier if you can make use of the existing infrastructure, but old wiring has its limits. | |

ATT has their small radius for DSL but they offer it to everyone else at no guaranteed speeds. Comcrap is hit and miss depending on which block you live on. And WOW, along with Comcrap, has signal or lack of, issues. Plus they're heading into the digital turnover blind. WOW will probably be sold again within a year.

Unlikely, but what difference does it make if one investment firm transfers assets over to another like what happened a year ago. Nothing changed.

According to RCN they serve Chicago's lakefront, including Lincoln Park, Lake View, Gold Coast, Streeterville, Hyde Park, Rogers Park and more.
WOW has service in the following areas, Arlington Heights, Calumet City, Chicago City - S. Probably just so that they could claim coverage in our zip code. I haven't seen a FIOS truck here in 6 or 8 months. They are really funny about how they select areas to cover and who they decide to bypass. When I lived in Chino I learned my tract was to be bypassed. A call to the mayor got me a contact at Verizon who explained to me that our homeowners association had blocked their efforts. I found this amusing and told them so, and proceeded to explain that I was the president of the association and that this was the first we'd heard of it. Three months later they were laying fiber in our middle class tract. We weren't alone. From what I could tell it appeared that they bypassed some of the poorer more heavily minority neighborhoods. I'm assuming that they don't think that there's any money in Hemet, which is just nuts. -- "Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--
