Users in our FiOSTV forum continue to track Verizon's staggered rollout of the company's new media guide, which integrates a lot of additional media functionality for FiOS users and is getting very high marks. The so-far unconfirmed deployment dates from our users:
MA 8/2 (moved to next week)
Click for full size
new customers only NJ/PA/DE 8/2
extisting customers NJ/PA/DE 8/28
other parts NJ 8/7
NY 8/9
CA 8/14
FL 8/16

MD 8/23
Verizon's John Czwartacki e-mails to let us know Massachusetts will actually see the guide next week. He also points to some additional looming updates over at the FiOS policy blog, including remote DVR operation and games.

Fios TV 2 Northen Virginia

I just received an email from my friend who is a senior systems Engineer at Verizon and he said the Mercury Media (aka Fios 2) is being deployed mid August in the Northern Virginia Region.

...

That is stupid. Why are DE subscribers not being rolled out until a month after new subscribers? Why does this delay only apply to PA/NJ/DE?

Re: ...

That still doesn't explain why everyone else gets it at the same time and we don't. Plus, judging by how long it's been talked about in the forums and in the news section, it's been in testing for at least a year.

Remotes

So will the fairly lame current remotes work completely with the new guide? I'll assume so... Do the current remotes have page up/down buttons?

Re: Remotes

With the new guide, channel +/- doubles as page +/i, as on the Tivo.

Life is now wonderful.

Besides the overall crappiness of the current user interface, the page up and down was my biggest complaint.

Specific?

I wish they could be more specific on what parts of the states are going to be rolled out.

As for FL, I hope they consider rolling out in the South (broward, dade)

I'm getting tired

of hearing about FIOS. It's such a small minority of users that can get it. Just the other day I got a letter from Verizon and thought it was telling me that FIOS was available. Instead, the letter told me that I can now get DSL and DirecTV (which appears to be some partnership with Verizon)!! Verizon pushes other people's service rather than concentrating on deploying fiber. Verizon is worthless. I'm glad I dropped them years ago for Cingular.

Got Tired of Waiting

I gave up on waiting for a prettier guide. There are no real enhancements other than search. The guide data is horrible with show descriptions generic rather than of the specific episode.

I'm keeping my FIOS Tv for it's picture quality, but I'm giving my money to Tivo to enhance my FIOS TV experience.

Verizon would be better served saving money and helping Tivo develop a Tivo that can support their features so they can reap the benefits of subscription fees rather than spending millions on developers who are trying to learn how to do this stuff for the first time.

Even Direct Tv seems to want to get away from designing their interfaces for DVR's.

Got FIOS today, Central MA with the new Guide PROBLEM!

First off FIOS is GREAT, better than expected. The new guide is great...easy to use, very good looking. BUT...If you have an HD TV, most people use the stretch feature that will change a NON HD show to fill the screen. An HD show fits to "Normal" size. Anyway...the channel guide (the info when you change channels) is VERY small. It is hard to read. If you use the stretch, the guide stays in the middle of the picture and does not expand. I called verizon, they are working to see if they can fix the problem.
BUT...it is a great service and more than worth what I am paying...Goodbye Charter!!
