| New things quote: # Live Bookmarks, which help users discover a new dimension to the web by allowing them to create bookmarks that display dynamically updated content such as news headlines. Live Bookmarks let users view RSS feeds, a technology that web content providers use to easily create and disseminate news headlines and summaries. RSS feeds are offered by thousands of sites, including Yahoo News, BBC.co.uk, CNET News.com and most weblogs. # Plugin finder service: Firefox now includes a plugin finder service that makes it a breeze to install plugins, starting with the Macromedia Flash Player for Windows. Additional plugins will be added in the coming weeks. # Improved searching within web pages: Firefox now highlights search terms when the user is looking for keywords within a page.
Sounds good for me, espcially the highlight feature wich I guess will be useful as the google cache option. -- Jesus saves, but only Buddha makes incremental backups.

| We need extention updates! Just installed 1.0PR. To bad 90% of my extensions no longer work . Hopefully they are patched soon.
BTW - interesting that FF now has an info bar just like sp2 IE. It acts just like IE blocking installs on pages unless you unblock the site.

| Mozilla Firefox I get ninety five percent less spyware by using Mozilla Firefox. Furthermore, I don't have to reboot my computer as frequent, don't experience lock ups or hangs, and enjoy using the tab browsing.

It seemed like everyday that I used IE six, my Gateway would hang , lockup or crash forcing me to do a reboot. Keep in mind that this is a computer with Windows 98 2nd Edition.
I don't have these problems using Firefox version .9x -- Dslreports.com Forum No-Spin zone starts here. »www.antihotmail.com spammers_are_scumbags@antihotmail.com

1 edit | It would be great... Hey, you know what would be great? It would be great if every successive release of FireFox didn't break Googlebar. Is it that hard to come up with an extension framework and just stick with it?
Edit: But I have to say the RSS feature is awesome. Called live bookmarks, it works just like a bookmark except it shows a blue folder which contains all the items in the feed. When you visit a site that properly uses the <link> tag, FireFox automatically shows an RSS icon in the status bar. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures.

Maybe you can help me, I am trying to use the RSS feautre wihtout any success... All i see is XML code How does it work? I am note getting RSS icons, do you have a link that you know it works? I followed this : »www.mozilla.org/products/firefox···rks.html but not working. hum I see the RSS now under this site... But I thought it could also read .rss .xml like softwares such as Healinesus and others... Is the RSS just for Bookmarking???
thanks in advance | |

| Re: It would be great... If a site shows the RSS icon in your browser's STATUS BAR (not on the web page), just click that to add a bookmark. BBR has this enabled. For some sites, you'll have to add a live bookmark manually through the bookmark manager. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures. | |

join:2004-08-06 | I think I get it. BUt at first I thought it would read .xml .rss files like few programs out there. I guess it does not but it generates a .rss file where it storage info for bookmarks.
|
| | Rhobite Premium join:2002-02-24 Cambridge, MA clubs: 2 edits | Re: It would be great... No, you were right the first time. It reads RSS files from web sites, and shows each item in a special bookmark folder. These folders change as the feeds change. Try adding a live bookmark for Slashdot or BBR! It really works well. | |

| Re: It would be great... Yahoo has RSS codes on the news pages. For top stories go to »news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=index&cid=716 then click on the RSS button IN THE FIREFOX STATUS BAR, ON THE LOWER RIGHT. Not on the page.
Slashdot is a web site with tech news. To subscribe to that feed go to »www.slashdot.org/ and just like with Yahoo, hit the status bar button.
For some sites without status bar buttons you'll have to add a link manually. Go to manage bookmarks and hit "New Live Bookmark." -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures.

| ... I was on Firefox for a long time but have gone back to Opera. I'm sick of every time there is an update to Firefox half the extensions and skins don't work anymore. Then you have to figure out how to tweak it by mulling through a bunch of nonsense at Mozillazine or wait for them all to be updated (takes forever sometimes). I never have to change anything when Opera updates and it's just as safe and functional as Firefox (yet not free I admit). -- Guild Wars | winterforge | |

| Wow, what are you guys talking about... I use a variety of extensions and use Firefox in both Windows and Linux, and I generally install a new version the day its released. I have not had a single extension break on me since the update to 0.8. All updates since then, every extension and skin has installed and worked perfectly right after the new release. Are you guys sure the fault doesn't lay with the extension and skin authors? Maybe some of them are taking shortcuts that result in poor compatability, and those happen to be the ones you use? | |
