T-Mobile may launch HTC Dream on September 23rd
(old news - 12:17PM Saturday Sep 13 2008)
tags: business · wireless · hardware · Google · T-Mobile US
The first Google Android phone, the HTC Dream smartphone carried by T-mobile, was approved by the FCC less than a month ago. At that time, it was said that the phone would be out no later than November 10th but there were rumors that had it being released as early as this month. Those rumors are going strong with the latest reports indicating that the first sign of the phone will be with a New York release on September 23rd. Google’s mobile platform director says that the team is working hard on making sure that this phone is impressive when released because the company knows that “a dud” will cause people to rapidly lose faith in the much-hyped mobile platform.

Locking?

Will this phone be locked to T-Mobile? It'd be nice to buy one just to try out with my existing AT&T service.

Re: Locking?

T-Mobile 3G service (and most likely the device itself) will be set up for 3G on 1700/2100MHz, and possibly the 1900/2100 global band, not 850/1900MHz for WCDMA.

You might only get EDGE service if it was unlocked/used on AT&T.

You can bet the phone whizzes at xda-dev will have this dude's software parted out and have android up and running shortly thereafter. I've already got a prerelease version running on my AT&T Tilt.

What dude's software?

You can already download the whole source on the Android website.

You can run android on many existing phones.

download those files to your phone (device memory, sd card drivers are iffy) then run haret.exe to boot to android. to get back to winmo you'll need to soft reset. This is a prerelease version, so not everything is 100%.

Enjoy

Re: xda

Dude, in the redneck vernacular, is a noun meaning an indirect reference to a physical item, in this instance the Android phone.

Running Voip on the G1

Raketu announced they are releasing a Voip service for Google's G1. Not sure if there will be full voip functionality with the service or what kind of Voip Deals they will offer. Maybe worth checking out once it's actually available on the market.

Re: Running Voip on the G1

This will be a huge savings if I can use Business VOIP on my wireless Business Phone System. When are they releasing it for the G1?
