| Fixing? At least they are trying fix the issues but I think they could do a better job of it. They should just remotely check the firmware versions and then push the updates to the routers with the defective firmware automatically instead of waiting for people to call in with the issue. | Re: Ridiculous Um no. The router handles the coax for updates to the STB menus, directory, etc. Plus the Actiontec model is pretty robust, it does WPA, it has decent navigation (compared to some router models out there), and the Wifi signal has been pretty solid (feeds my 2nd story Mac and 2 Airport Express for streaming audio and repeating).
Yes, Verizon could make the URL for updating "automatic" instead of "disabled" (checking the firmware update screen, it needs to be done manually and default points to Actiontec and not Verizon).
Better yet, I wonder how many FIOS subscribers with this model actually know to use a browser to connect?
(BTW, I reboot mine often to get new IP....don't ask!) -- Weeeeeeee!

@verizon.net | Huh? I've been using BT on my Actiontec without any problems for the month that I've had FiOS and been averaging 5 Mbit upload during that time.

| they suck Actiontec routers SUCK. They try to force that POS down your throat when they bend you over for their FIOS-TV service, because they want to use your internet connection for the PPV & guide data.. and other threads on BBR have already brought those problems to the light of day. Do yourself a favor and just get a "NID" if they force you to have an ethernet connection to the fios-tv box. Then get either a gaming wireless router or a wired router (preferably with GIGABIT wan/lan ports).. or a combination of both. | |

2 edits | This is not freeware Verizon might not take too kindly with BroadbandReports distributing their software. Caution here. This is not public domain freeware.
It's probably ready to go, but Verizon needs to follow a proper production release process. Availability via CSR probably indicates a "hot fix" is needed and they bypassed the process.
I wouldn't want to damage the relationship with Verizon here, especially with the excellent Verizon Direct forum. You may want to consider invalidating the link to the firmware.

Its probably safe to say much of the success Verizon has had with the Fios deployment is in fact due to this forum, where else does Verzion receive this type of exposure? it's like free advertising so I dont see Verizon making a case out this...

| Bridge mode Ummm can Verizon still force updates while the router is in bridge mode? Or does it become a manual process when its in Bridge mode? I am almost afraid to touch it because its working beautifully in bridge mode and my VOIP works great and so does my access. Any suggestions? | |

| Actiontek Router/WAP If you have FiOS TV as well as Internet service, you MUST use the supplied Actiontek router in order to use the TV set top boxes. The VOD, program guide and other housekeeping for the STBs comes over the MOCA (coax) connection through the router. You CAN, however, put your own router/WAP/Linux router, etc ahead of the Actiontek, using the Actiontek only for the MOCA uses. I did this a while back to cure the Port Forwarding and NAT blues. The Actiontek chokes with port forwards, as it never deletes unused or inactive Port Forward rules and Torrent usage can cripple it.
By the way, I believe someone implied that the VOD and menu stuff "takes away" from your Internet capacity/bandwidth. It doesn't. You get the full bandwidth for which you pay. The STB data and VOD, etc do not take away from your IP bandwidth.
And JESUS! does FiOS rock compared to Comcast/TWC which it replaced here.

| Re: RE: Fix For Mysteriously Rebooting FiOS Actiontec Routers I have Fios TV and Internet. Is there a good way for me to bypass the Actiontec all together and just use it for TV/VOD etc. and then use my linksys (gathering dust on my shelf) for internet.
The actiontec has like 300 ports open from everytime I use PNP. It is killing me. It is hard to configure and a pain in the butt. I would love to be rid of it all together for internet purposes.
