knightmbEverybody Lies join:2003-12-01 Franklin, TN | I guess it makes sense? 2 hours is probably to cover a lunch break or morning breakfast before everyone gets back to work. On the technical side, that is what interest me. I imagine that the cards are now tied into their radius server to keep track of when/how long they can use the wi-fi, etc.
I commend them on the technical feat, but in this day of everyone having open wireless AP everywhere, seems to be just a token gesture of time. -- Fight NebuAD and the like: Click Here to pollute their data

| Everyone who has paid for T-Mobile Hotspot can still use them. I think it is good for casual use, but you would still have to pay if you want to use it more than 2 hours a day. I do sometimes, so I'm just sticking with my Hotspot membership as it costs the same to get a monthly subscription to AT&T. I live in a Verizon area so no one here has AT&T DSL to get free Wifi. | |

Some people leave their work (such as in my office) just to chill out in the chairs for 4-5 hours with refills on coffee and such, and it definitely beats out the library, well my campus library at least.

| Good Deal I always pay cash for my Starbucks stuff but now I will fill up my card and pay that way. 2 hours is more than enough to make me go there versus Panera which offers free also. Of course I do have a wireless air card anyway...... | |

At least learn how to properly protect your brain from aliens before making random comments like that. Furthermore, its call ed a thought screen helmet, not a tin foil hat. You won't be laughing when they come for you!

| | Why Bother There are plenty of independent coffee shot that offer free wifi no questions ask, but do buy something and do not linger all day. | |
|
| | | Re: Why Bother Because not everyone lives in Portland Oragon where there is an indy shop on every pier. People live in urban or suburban areas where there are chains at every strip mall or downtown intersection.
I frequent neither indy or chain. I have a nice espresso machine at home and have my own 3G card.

This may be a dumb question, but do you need an iPhone data plan if you plan to only use home wifi and free wifi for internet connection? I'd probably get a data plan for the (rumored) GPS functionality, but was just curious.

| | Starbucks Quite a few Starbucks are still in the process of switching from T-Mobile to AT&T.
As for the Starbucks card, you get to spend any money you put on it on whatever you want from Starbucks. So, assuming you actually purchase something at Starbucks at least once in a while, you aren't losing anything and getting what you'd normally get for the money plus WiFi, effectively making the WiFi free in the sense that you aren't paying any money for it.
