| The BSA takes a "complaint" of piracy and goes to the FBI who show up at your door with a Federal subpoena and they haul all of your hardware out for an audit. That's what happens if you trespass them off of your property.
Go to the BSA site and read some of their BS enforcement press releases.

though most online shops let you view all your past invoices which im sure they would have to accept as proof. unless they think someone like Newegg would doctor a saved invoice.

I'm all for protecting our computers, but requiring a test or a license to get on the internet is simply a crazy idea... While we're at it, let's also require a test for people who want to use toasters, irons, and all other kitchen equipment. Let's make sure we all are licensed to use our garage door openers as well. Now you have to run their crappy 100MB ram hogging anti virus which scans all files on the fly, and keep your IE at the latest major version (I never do, the older the IE, the faster more efficient it is, since the old version has stopped getting patches, I use FF, and use IE for only IE only sites, which are very rare nowadays). Also they scan your system for P2P apps, no difference between legal and illegal P2P.
Next thing you know, they will silently scan your computer to make sure you have licensed software and report you to the BSA, or scan your computer for islamic terrorism or to find out who "raped" a white blond head cheerleader at the last frat party, or they will scan you for what they think is child pornography (your hentai feature minors, bestiality or gore?). You signed your rights away when you installed the babysitting program.
Someone will say install Linux, but thats besides the point, thats like saying, if you don't want to be racial profiled by the police don't be black or hispanic, go do what Michael Jackson did. Sooner or later, an administrator will say to block Linux since it can't be "effectivly secured". Oh wait, someone already did that.

Drivers licenses are the same thing. Since its a "privilege" and not a "right" and you "voluntarily" got one, the constitution doesn't apply to you. In states where there is no stop and identify law ( »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_and_I···statutes ), you loose that right by being a driver (yes, lets have amnesia and forget the car has a license plate and an owner and if its stolen the cop can check on their computer instantly).
The better solution is deal with offenders, not the innocent. Just plain sue the residential IP owners who are sending spam. If I prank call you and harass you, I'm going to jail (if the lazy DAs every cared to prosecute anything but the innocent and what the media will plaster on the TV to get them cred for their governor run) »www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/47/223.html#a_1 . Why should any residential internet connections have an open port 25?
I have a good idea, can't we prevent rapes of women by saving sperm and putting it in a sperm bank who will only release by government permit, then castrate or penectomy all men, when they hit puberty? Thats a flawless way to prevent rape of women! </sarcasm>
When people get spam lawsuits like they get RIAA lawsuits, suddenly its serious business, and for the people who say time is money, spam lawsuits are money, maybe you should rethink the time/computer education part. If I run someone over with a car, I don't just keep driving, I get sued and held accountable.
Microsoft should do their part and make Windows Home an internet appliance/semi-closed walled garden, like an iPhone. Partner with ISPs to include a Windows Home subscription in the internet connection. Maybe call the product "Windows Web". Wasn't Software As a Service and cloud computing the hottest thing since the internet 2 years ago?
Consumers would love if all the normal Windows Apps ran on a "managed platform", with no viruses, worms, trojans, keyloggers, and with guaranteed updates and no ability to screw up the registry and that all the apps in the "Microsoft Store" were crypto signed and reviewed. Open source would have to have a small ($10) fixed fee to pay for the anti-virus/malware, crypto signing, and updating parts (under GPL "You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, and you may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee." clause).
Anyone who has "time" to learn anything or is competent will buy Windows Professional, Windows Professional will not be the default option in retail/internet/direct sales. Windows Professional is a fixed one time fee like a normal OS. Windows Home would be a subscription.
Putting a drivers license on an internet connection will cause the safety police to go down the big brother path. And only outlaws have internet connection. What about VPNs, tunneling, Virtual Machine, wifi cracking, social engineering, security breaches and worms (turn PC into access point giving unrestricted anonymous internet).
The sheep should be pushed or force educated (Windows SAS/Web/dumb terminal is default, professional is an upgrade, those who know to get professional will, the sheep will choose the default and get Windows SAS and its cheaper in the very short term too) towards PC security/internet appliance/internet drivers license, not a taser shock collar put on the sheep and then they get zapped until they comply with the master's wishes.
The sheep want a cable box, not a Big Ugly Dish with 3 different decryption boxes and a chart of aiming coordinates. Why does Best Buy, Dell, and Microsoft only sell them Big Ugly Dishes? They want people to buy a new PC/laptop every 6 months/every time it gets a virus and toss the old one in the trash? (its cheaper to buy new than give to Geek Squad or a typical computer repairman who charges auto mechanic hourly rates).

These pieces of crap don't seem to get they are not wanted around here. How do I find out who voted for this? Ok first of all nothing was passed. It's not law. It got thru a Senate COMITEE. It's got a while before it's even gets voted on by the Senate and if it passes that then it's got to get voted on by the House then the president has to sign it. Then it's law. Once it's law the radio staion can file a lawsuit ni which ost like an injunction will be filed for it to not take effect until after the issue is settled by the courts which could take years. An example is COPA which was passed and signed into law by Clinton in 1998 which never took affect because of lawsuits and finally got killed in earlier this year by the Supreme Court.
|
| | | Why reverse it? Satellite radio has to pay. Internet radio has to pay. MTV had to pay, which is why they don't play videos any more. Why shouldn't ALL for profit companies that exist to play music have to pay? | |

| I think the founding father to quote here is Franklin, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." A degree of anonymity is required to ensure our basic civil rights. There is a reason that voters need not disclose who they vote for and why just cause is required before search and seizure of private property. Needless will never purchase a Kaspersky product until they officially redact and apologize for that statement. | |

Verizon working with Motorola and Google will soon be rolling out the biggest challenge to iPhone dominance yet - or so say the tech pundits. This will be the Verizon Droid.
Verizon and Motorola finally lifted the curtain on their new Droid Android phone yesterday. Make no mistake, this is Androids flagship product, and the first phone that will pose a significant threat to Apples iPhone. And it will be available very soon, possibly as early as the end of this month.
The phone is a three-way effort between Motorola, Verizon and Google. It looks a lot like the iPhone, and may even be as thin or thinner than the iPhone 3GS. It also has two key advantages over the iPhone a slide out physical keyboard, and use of the Verizon network.
Unlike previous Android phones, the Droid is rumored to be powered by the TI OMAP3430, the same core that the iPhone and Palm Pre use, and which significantly outperforms Qualcomm 528MHz ARM11 based Android phones that exist today.
Droid will also be running v.2.0 of Android, with a significantly upgraded user interface. Pic: »www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/09/28/···the-fcc/

(Its running a TI OMAP3430 processor) # The feel of the device is very reminiscent of the OQO 02 model computer. Just smaller. Its metal with a non-spring-assisted slide, very sturdy, and half soft-touch plastic. # Awesome capacitive display. Plus its huge. Easily the best screen weve ever seen on an Android handset, and an amazing screen overall. # The QWERTY keyboard is actually pretty usable and has a soft-touch rubberized finish. Weve been told the keyboard design isnt final on this unit, thus the two no-shows. # Have we mentioned this phone flies? Its the Android device to beat, and easily the most impressive. From what weve been told, Google had a direct hand in the Motorola Droid. Something to the point of almost dictating every move Motorola made when designing and making the phone.
