POTS service pretty much is ubiquitous, although in highly rural areas, that's often all that is available.

I'm pretty happy most of the time with the 1M/384K service I get now($21.99), Outside of the 2 times this month alone where I've lost either phone service and/or DSL, One day Dial Tone went and drowned Itself(rain) and shortly thereafter DSL went too, They fixed It, This morning I lost DSL for about 4 hours, Both days were a Friday(Lovely), I've learned to check My Netgear WPN824 v3 router and the Westell 7500 modem first and I know what to look for, As the 7500 will tell Me If DSL is down or up at a glance, Lovely, Wouldn't trade the 7500 unless I had to. I can record from linein without connecting a wire from the speaker jack to the mic jack. It seems to be internal, capturing the stream before it's converted to analog.
The result sounds as good to me as the original iTunes song. If there's a loss of quality, I don't hear it.

| Pushing some stuff to the cloud does make sense, it's only truly dumb when users don't know the risks- unreliable or offline access, hosting companies that may not be around long term, security, etc.
If users can live with and have the same expectations for cloud access as webmail, then it should largely be a positive experience. | |

A Mozilla official last week pointed Firefox users to the extension that adds Microsoft's Bing search engine to the list of the browser's search engines after Google's CEO downplayed consumers' privacy concerns.
During the interview, Schmidt was asked: "People are treating Google like their most trusted friend...should they be?" It was Schmidt's answer that motivated Dotzler to show users how to drop Google, Firefox's default search engine, for rival Bing.
"If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place," Schmidt told CNBC.
Dotzler fumed over Schmidt's comments on privacy. "That was Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, telling you exactly what he thinks about your privacy," said Dotzler on his blog. Google plans to sell its new phone without getting a wireless carrier to subsidize the handset. But that doesnt mean it wont work with a carrier: The search giant intends to launch its phone next year with the help of T-Mobile, say sources familiar with its plans.
Google (GOOG) has approached multiple carriers about supporting its new phone, which it has designed itself and will be produced by Taiwans HTC, sources say. But so far only T-Mobile has agreed to actively help push the phone via distribution channels and support infrastructure, Im told.
But sources say Googles decision to use GSM came only after Verizon Wireless (VZ), which uses the rival CDMA technology, declined to help Google push the new phone.
Google doesnt intend to sell its new Nexus One phone that way, sources familiar with the companys plans say. Instead, it envisions a scenario where customers who buy the handset are provided with a menu that lets them pick a carrier, menu-style.
