RE:Verizon to double number of LTE markets 15 months

And "Clearwire: 2 Million Subs By End Of 2010"

Between LTE rollouts and Wimax rollouts, the traveling public should have much faster speeds available in a few years. Video calling might become std for smartphone users.

Will the CDMA Nexus One also be available on Sprint?

Re: RE:Google's Verizon Nexus One clears FCC

No, but there's a decent alternative: the HTC Supersonic. 4.3 inch screen, Android, HTC Sense and WiMAX. I'd take that over the Nexus One actually.

Re: Microsoft Makes Case For Antitrust Scrutiny Of Google

Eh, some Microsoft stuff has also been really nice. The issue is that Microsoft hasn't had any competition besides themselves in ages. As for Google, I do want to keep them from becoming a new Intel and making a good product, but slowing down and getting more expensive.

Benign Monopoly

quote:
For years, at various times, tech giants such as Microsoft, Google and Apple have all been referred to as “benign monopolies.”
Unless you're talking about copyrights or patents. They arent monopolies so they cant be benign nor malicious. It's hard to be a monopoly when your competition is named in the same sentence.

Is microsoft dominate of the market? Definitely. That's a good thing for the free market. We really dont have any monopoly problems in the tech field. If AMD were to go bankrupt tommorrow. SPARC or a half dozen others would jump right into their place. If ATI were to go also. Im not really sure who could replace them. Other then people would rely on onboard intel based stuff I suspect lol.

EU saying Google is a monopoly or anti-competitive or whatever is just crazy too me. Google steals all their ideas from other people. Facebook/myspace? GOOGLE BUZZ! Mapquest? GOOGLE MAPS! Yahooo? GOOGLE! Babelfish? GOOGLE TRANSLATE!

How can you be a monopoly when you steal all your ideas? Dont get me wrong. Google act of not being evil while doing good business is awesome, great, and boggles the mind. Google is practically the only publically traded company which isnt absolutely the worst kind of evil.

Moreover. Lets say somehow Google is anti-competitive and a monopoly. Microsoft can just force everyone's homepage to become bing through an update. Now suddenly 50% of the world is using bing.

Truly though. The only monopolies we need to control are regional/natural based ones and government based ones.

Roosevelt went to get ALCOA. It wasnt because of any illegal activity. It was simply because of them being massively dominant. Even if they were a total monopoly in north america. There's no reason to bust them up. Aluminum doesnt go bad. You can import aluminum from practically anywhere. Which they definitely didnt control everything.

This is different from natural monopolies. Public utilities, food, and ISPs. Luckily nobody has tried very hard to become a massive force in the food area. Public utilities are generally heavily regulated and considered common carrier.

For some reason ISPs have managed to keep their essential monopoly or if you're lucky and have a 2nd choice... you have an oligopoly.

Monopoly

Seems people have forgotten what the word means. Monopoly? Apple's got a monopoly in what? Not personal computers. Not smartphones. Not music players (though it's closest there). Integration within its own product line does not make it a monopoly.

Google doesn't have a monopoly in search, either, although it certainly dominates the market.

I'm not sure what the "market" for Flash would be; it's something of a swiss army knife. There's nothing only Flash does, but at the same time there's little which does all that Flash does. But if you're looking for an Adobe monopoly, there are certainly markets they clearly do have a monopoly in -- like, say, professional graphics design and photography software.

Re: Monopoly

i guess the fact google has a product people want makes them a monopoly in the eyes of some of those who are not educated enough.

like the iPhone, they hold the majority in smartphones but they are not the only choice, it just so happens that they are what the people want.

iPhone does not hold the majority of Smartphone market, Nokia does followed by RIM.

RE: Verizon Wireless Customers Most Loyal in the Industry

With $400 ETF's, number porting issues and phantom fees for cancelling, it's no wonder their customers are so loyal

Re: RE: Verizon Wireless Customers Most Loyal in the Industry

A qualifier for the study or findings should be added - "loyal" up to now, that is.

Oh, not to mention that ever shrinking NE2 program credit and the VIP program which expired 2/28/2010 for many customers on higher price plan tiers.

Nowadays, the only thing that we are loyal to is being smart with the wallet (checking book or debit card payment, etc. or paying cash for our bills) first and accordingly with the smart (wireless) phone - let's see how the dumb customers vote on the loyality with VZW in a year or two from now - especially if the economy remain on a roller coaster ride & job market prospects do not get better with those out of work ....

Corporate greed never amazes me - has its origin traced partially on Wall Street perhaps, but it's definitely up Water Street in downtown NYC (where VZ has its corporate presence)

Re: RE: Verizon Wireless Customers Most Loyal in the Industry

I have 3 lines on a family share plan. Only 1, the main number, has data. The 2 shared lines pay $9.99/ month for voice. This Dumb-ass move requiting a data plan on any nicer phones will effectively double the cost of the shared lines.

When it is time to renew, I am looking elsewhere.

Re: RE: Verizon Wireless Customers Most Loyal in the Industry

The fat ETF's, nonsense fees and the locked CDMA phones that you pay a bundle for (the nicer ones atleast) and cannot simply pull out SIM card and use on another carrier add to the reason why most folks just don't bother.
