EU v Google

Ok so what if Google does dominate search? what can the EU do about it?

oh yes they can do nothing about it unless they force their citizens to type www.yahoo.com instead of www.google.com Google only dominates search because people allow it to, if Bing/Yahoo did search better it would be #1.

Re: EU v Google

They could block most people from accessing it. Maybe even get Google to redirect a percentage of searches.

Or more likely, they can fine Google millions of dollars per day.

Re: EU v Google

Yeah right. This is like one black mark on the EU's record. No one said Europe was flawless. You can be more advanced and still have fuck ups.

Honestly the main reason the EU sees google as "Evil" is not any of their business practices but that they are an American company.

Id imagine if Google where an EU based company they would get away with almost anything.

Should Faking a Name on Facebook Be a Felony?

It's just a continuation of the poor government we are saddled with in the U.S. The trick is to make everything against the law so police can pick and choose which person or group they are going to prosecute/persecute.

Re: Should Faking a Name on Facebook Be a Felony?

USING facebook should be a crime, therfore using ANY name should be punished...but a felony?
Given that most localities are releasing prisoners left and right, and many are no longer prosecuting more serious offences due to funding shortages, codifying a new "babysitter" violation seems stupid.

better would be to force facebook to add a warning to every page "nobody on the internet is who they seem to be, share with them at your own risk"

Re: Read the Facebook Felony Article!

What they are proposing is outrageous! If touch/view/use pretty much anything without permission, I can be charged with a felony by the government thru criminal prosecution, or privately thru a civil case.

Big Apple fake Apple stores agree to rat out suppliers

"Big Apple fake Apple stores agree to rat out suppliers"

Is there a way to rephrase this? Talk about confusing..

As for the article, it doesn't surprise me much. I've seen my fair share of fake Apple devices around the 'net. Just look on eBay.

Hey Apple.. Maybe if you would build your devices here, you wouldn't have massive issues with counterfitting. But you'd prefer building your devices in.. oh ya.. China. I wonder how much the iPhone really costs to build. I know the carriers are taking a hit for each one sold since most of the money goes to Apple.

Netflix In 'The Perfect Storm'?

A good article and they forgot to mention one more item with some serious potential to hurt Netflix.

The USPS is suggesting changing delivery of first class mail from one day to three... this could only hurt their disc delivery model. They would have to increase the amount of movies out at a time to compensate and that would cost them $$$. Couple that with the fact that their content is already getting higher priced or becoming unavailable (Starz) and that is quite a storm a brewing.

I think the most simple and honest part of the article is that there are no barriers to entry in the market... and sooner or later, someone with a good (or bad) plan with lots of money will come along and be a huge slice of over night competition.

Things can (and will) change so Netflix is going to have to stay fast of it's feet to survive the potential amount of deep pocketed competitors with better content connections. The land of IP and Mail movie delivery is just getting started IMHO.

Re: Netflix In 'The Perfect Storm'?

the problem is the IP owners do not like Netflix because its reasonably priced. IP owners are still trying to ride high on the hog of overpriced media and cable revenues. and at least as of current they have the power to do so because they will price netflix out of business and buy laws to make P2P piracy a worse crime than blowing up a daycare center while shooting an elementry school with a minigun.
