Will Verizon Go Wireless-Only And Spinoff FiOS?

I have no problem with this.

Let's just hope that whomever buys this actually wants to expand the coverage in a meaningful way.

That would be a huge mistake. Fiber optics are here to stay and will become as essential as electricity. Wireless is a luxury.

I'd suggest the future is the other way around. Wireless and mobility are the future. Fiber has it's place in infrastructure to provide sufficient bandwidth, but I'd hazard a guess that in 10+ years, a vast majority of connectivity and communications will be without wires.

Unless we dedicate an entire GHz chunk strictly for consumer wireless devices, I highly doubt we'll ever be completely wireless.

Fiber is still the future. If you want speed, use Fiber. If you want mobility, use Wireless. They complement each other instead of taking over. What we need to go is replace every bit of copper with fiber, but that would cost too much and/or dig into their profit margins.

That's my point. Closer to the core infrastructure you get, the more fiber you'll have. Further out will be wireless. Wireless for mobility, obviously.
