| One Third Of Americans Regularly Bank Online
»news.yahoo.com/s/cmp/20080220/tc···06800572
In a survey of 2,000 consumers in the U.S. and the U.K. last summer, Gartner extrapolated that 71 million U.S. adults use online banking regularly. In the U.K., 14 million adults, or more than a quarter of the adult population, regularly bank online.
"The current usage levels in both countries show that adoption is now taking place within the mainstream of consumers, among people who use new channels and services if, and only if, they see intrinsic value from the new technology," Gartner researcher David Schehr said in statement. "Online banking has clearly made this transition in consumer minds."
One new frontier in online banking is accessing accounts via a smartphone. AT&T, for example, launched late last year a mobile banking application that allows the carrier's nationwide subscribers to view account balances and pay bills on their cell phones.
AT&T collaborated with Wachovia and SunTrust Banks, as well as mobile banking and payment provider Firethorn Holdings and its partner CheckFree.

In other news people still continue to buy cars all the while others are stolen! Well, with cars you don't have a choice(except maybe in downtowns of large cities with a lot of public transportation like NYC). But when paying bills or doing other banking, you can still do all that the old way(by check and by going to the local branch office). So, the growth of banking on the internet is still impressive given all the hacking news that makes the press on a regular basis. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

So, the growth of banking on the internet is still impressive given all the hacking news that makes the press on a regular basis. Enjoy it while you still can. Won't be around much longer. Most banks already charge you for a monthly print out of any checks you used(let alone not getting back the checks like you used to). More and more banks even charge you for over a certain amount of teller visits. Down the road a person not banking by computer will be like one of those "outsiders" that doesn't have a car. Or will be paying hefty monthly banking fees.

2 edits | Yahoo sued by shareholders over refusing Microsoft bid
»www.news.com/8301-13860_3-987709···1_3-0-20
Two Detroit pension funds have filed a shareholders lawsuit against Yahoo in the Delaware Chancery Court, according to reports Friday.
The lawsuit, filed by the a Detroit public employees pension fund and a Detroit firefighters and police pension fund, accused the Internet search pioneer of stonewalling Microsoft's unsolicited buyout offer, initially valued at $44.6 billion on February 1.
"Yahoo's directors cannot 'just say no' indefinitely to legitimate acquisition offers when the effect of that decision is to deny shareholder choice in the face of non-coercive and economically beneficial bid--especially where, as here, the bid may yet be improved through negotiations," the lawsuit stated, according to MarketWatch.
Earlier this month, the Wayne County Employees Retirement System sued Yahoo in a Michigan court. Yahoo's own Board of Directors and now large shareholder groups are getting increasingly annoyed by Yahoo's CEO's insistence on stonewalling Microsoft. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. | Hackers turn Google into vulnerability scanner
»news.yahoo.com/s/infoworld/20080···ld/95498
The hacking group Cult of the Dead Cow (CDC) this week released a tool that turns Google into an automated vulnerability scanner, scouring Web sites for sensitive information such as passwords or server vulnerabilities. The new tool, called Goolag Scan, is equally provocative, making it easy for unskilled users to track down vulnerabilities and sensitive information on specific Web sites or broad Web domains. The tool is a stand-alone Windows .Net application, licensed under the open source GNU General Public License, that provides about 1,500 customized searches under categories such as "vulnerable servers," "sensitive online shopping information," and "files containing juicy information." The results are displayed as a list of links that can be opened directly in a browser. Example results include tell-tale error messages and Java applets for the remote control of surveillance cameras, according to CDC. Great, more tools for the criminals and scum prowling the internet. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

| New Toy, New hobby... I always wanted a vintage neon beer sign, and I finally acquired one.
This is a 3 stage flasher model. The inside lights, then the outside ribbon lights alone, then the whole thing lights, then the inside again.
My father had one of these when I was a kid, but the outside ribbon was busted. Apparently these signs are pretty delicate, as I bought this one off Flea-Bay and it arrived busted in 2 places. I found a local small neon shop that repaired it.
It..is...ALIVE!
I'm hoping to make a hobby of collecting vintage neons after I pay my truck off in April.
Just wanted to share my latest find..... -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

| Re: New Toy, New hobby... Sure, no problem.
I originally paid $80 for it on E-Bay. The seller refunded me half the purchase price, when it arrived broken. INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY FOR BROKEN NEON. The box has to have visible damage.
The broken glass was in the box, right near the broken spots, so I believe the seller when he says the item was damaged in shipment.
The sign was busted in 2 places. The "F" in HIGH LIFE was broken away, and the ribbon on the outside was busted in 2 spots. I called a local (Wilmington, DE) neon shop that quoted me $75 over the phone to fix it.
Since it was a 2 element repair, I knew it would be more.
Total repair was $100. He did a fantastic job, and would recommend him to anyone. Only took him a few days to fix it, and you couldn't see the breaks if I showed you.
It's bright as hell. I'm basking in it's glow as I type.
My recommendations on acquiring neon signs (I am a novice)...
Go with local pick up if at all possible, these signs don't ship well unless in factory packaging.
Shop around. A local dealer wanted $260 (no typo) for this very sign, and even with repair, I acquired this piece much cheaper.
I would like to get my hands on a vintage Yuengling sign, and perhaps a vintage Ballentine or Pabst neon. I really only like the vintage ones.
Oh, and beware of damaged "blue" neons (they actually have argon in them), the tubes contain a trace of mercury, and a lot of shops won't work on them...
Glad you like my sign. My neighbors hate it -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

Hell, you got that sign for $40+$100 repair = $140 = ain't too shabby. Good deal!
Eventually, we're going to try and put a bar in our house and collect some neon signs like this. You passed along good info, thank you.

| A worse Poem by Me A very long time ago when I was a teenager I was very depressed around the holidays. I wrote this awful poem, to make everyone else depressed too.
Poverty Pestilence Misery Sorrow Grief Hate and Despair The Cancer that eats through all of our minds And the Smog that chokes up the Air
It's the Santa throwing rocks at the church It's the Grinch sliming on in to steal It's the bills that have come due just before Christmas That have the trucker nodding off at the wheel
It's the little babies who'll never get born Because their mommies chain smoke too much And the ones that survive, they won't grow up right because their daddies like boys and such
You can't wish it away with women and drugs You can't drown it all out with beer But what the Hell. Get high and make Mary The Holidays are here
It such a bad poem, it couldn't win a bad poetry contest. The most depressing part about it is after you read it when the you realize that you will never get those seconds of your life back.
happy friday everybody.
