| Hackers Hijack, Redirect IANA and ICANN Web Sites
»news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20080627/tc_nf/60525
Hackers calling themselves NetDevilz temporarily hijacked the sites of key organizations that control routing of Internet traffic and redirected them to a taunting page.
Visitors to the sites for the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) were temporarily redirected Thursday morning. The sites affected were iana.com, iana-servers.com, icann.com and icann.net, according to researchers at Zone-h.org, which monitors attacks.
A message at the bogus site said, "You think that you control the domains but you don't! Everybody knows wrong. We control the domains including ICANN! Don't you believe us?"
IANA is responsible for managing the domain-name root system that translates domain names like newsfactor.com into IP addresses. ICANN oversees IANA.
I guess after ICANN's big announcement about expanding TLD domains, some loser hackers couldn't help but make big asses of themselves.

| Dear Telemarketers.... When I tell you to take my name off the list, especially you supposed "charities" who think you don't have to adhere to the no-call list, do what I ask.
I don't have to be nice, and I sure has heck won't be the second time around.
And by the way, it doesn't take your COMPUTER 4 weeks to delete my name from the database. It takes all of a few seconds. It does however, take that long for you to decide to honor my request and put the job together to make it happen. That's not your computer system, that's your people. There's a difference.
Oh and when I tell you all of this, don't respond by saying "I don't have time to argue" remember YOU called ME, not the other way around. I don't care what your quota is, the only person's time you're wasting is MINE.
Losers. Go away.

| Re: Dear Telemarketers.... It's kinda tough to say, but I have a sure fire way to get most telemarketers from calling you after you take enough of there calls. Personally I haven't gone this route yet but I have friends who tell me this works. I'm sure you know they read you a script when they call you. They act like they are your friends and know you and so fourth. But if you use my script, I think the telemarketing problem will go away for you. It goes like this:
Telemarketer: Hi this is (Name here) is Joe available?
Joe: Yes that's me.
Telemarketer: What are you up to today?
Joe: Well I'm kinda busy f*****g my sister right now, and I have to get back to it.
Telemarketer: *Stunned Silence* followed by a click, followed by a telemarketer erasing your name from the list.

That never works or has not so far, I get 'that's an invalid option', or some other bull. I just don't bother trying those stupid remove options anymore. They don't work and the system on the other end knows it has found a live person.

There was one other one that was automated went to my cell phone, I called and the owner was very apologetic. Never heard from them again.
The callers I reference in the OP are live body calls from these supposed charities (who change the city of where they're located to your town) and they're all based out of the same exchange in the W. Do you even know what speculators really do?
You ever stock up on stuff when you find a good price? Then you yourself are a speculator.
If you "reign in" the speculators all you're going to do is discourage future oil production because it will mean that oil companies are going to be less certain of the price they'll be able to get in the future. You make it harder for producers to operate therefore they're less willing to take chances on new production which means less oil which means even higher prices.

You make it harder for producers to operate therefore they're less willing to take chances on new production which means less oil which means even higher prices. Speculators stabilize the market. You are correct under most circumstances. The only fly in the ointment is when some speculators can join together to MANIPULATE the market. Yes, it is illegal and those caught can end up in prison. But due to the international nature of oil speculation and the lack of enforcement in many countries(Russia comes to mind), very few would ever be punished.
Speculators can end up on the wrong side of the ledger as well - but only if there is a crash in the market. But in the meantime they can successfully drive up the price of oil beyond what NORMAL market forces would allow for.
And the Commodity regulators in the U.S. (Commodities Futures Trading Commission) admit that they are unable to monitor what is taking place since $5 trillion trades hands daily in the oil market. »www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/new···1709985/ And that doesn't even take in to account the trades taking place in other commodities markets around the world.
The case blaming oil manipulation from Business Week: »www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/c···es_ssi_5 Iran & others are sitting on oil pushing the price up by CREATING shortages.

Yes, it is illegal and those caught can end up in prison. But there's nothing we can really do about that though. From all my reading on this, there is 1 likely change in the buying and selling of futures contracts(all futures contracts and not just oil). And that is the margin % of how much cash is needed upfront.
Today, purchasers of futures contracts only have to put 7.5% of the purchase in cash. The % on the stock market is 50%. It is starting to look like Congress and the CFTC thru regulation are seriously looking at increasing that % from 7.5% up to 25% to 50%. And that would cool off the gamblers and result in only serious speculators looking to lock in future prices tied to actual delivery of the product. Some part of the current price structure is due a lot to the pure gamblers and not to the product at all. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

| Re: It cost me $63 to fill up my 2001 Toyota Camry Glad you found it interesting. Newts right about one thing, drill here and drill now. These guys could debate all they want about if its the speculators..... All I know is I see people cringing at the pumps. I say drill offshore and drill in Alaska, they could do it safely. The way I see it is we dont have much choice.
Our entire economy is based on the transportation system. Oil prices are up and so is the cost of EVERYTHING else. Those are the undisputed facts. Drill here and drill now and tell Opec to go pound sand. The only good thing about this is maybe someones ass will get in gear and make something happen. Im over 50 and they have been talking about alternative fuels ever since I could remember but not much as happened. The only thing Ive heard about alternative fuels over the years is how the oil companies stymied any and all alternative fuels ideas. Seeing the progress (or lack of) I would suspect that is true.

| Celestia-this program is REALLY COOL!!! »www.shatters.net/celestia/
Welcome to Celestia ... The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit. Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If that's not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects. -- I wish qwest would die! I want FIOS!

AT&T Moving Headquarters To Dallas DALLAS (AP) ― AT&T Inc., the nation's largest telecommunications company, said Friday it is moving its corporate headquarters to Dallas from San Antonio for easier access to customers and operations around the world.
AT&T said the move would begin within weeks and is expected to be complete around the end of the year.
The move will put AT&T closer to many of its technology suppliers and help cement the Dallas area as a telecom hub. Nokia Corp., Nortel Networks Corp., Ericsson and others have major operations here.
