Frontier Adds 13,800 DSL CustomersThough Verizon deal looms on the horizon... 08:34AM Friday Aug 07 2009 by Karl Bodetags: dsl · competition · businessFrontier Communications issued their second quarter financials this week, which indicate the company's earnings were slashed nearly in half, dropping to $30 million from $56 million one year ago. According to the company, the carrier lost 27,700 access lines (2,189,100 total), but added 13,800 DSL customers (613,800 total) and 11,400 DISH Network subscribers (157,400 total). Of course before long Frontier's going to jump from struggling niche operator to major rural player. In May the company announced they'd be paying $5.3 billion in common stock and taking on $3.3 billion in debt in order to acquire Verizon's DSL and landline networks in Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin Related:- Qwest: 265,000 ADSL2+/VDSL Customers

I love what Verizon is doing with FiOS..but that there just screams FAIL to me.
That's half of their subscribers. And those states listed..that's not just half of their systems in those states, that's all of what they own in that state.
Now we'll be left with Frontier who probably won't have the cash to upgrade those systems beyond DSL capability.
Not to mention..taking on ALL those customers, once the transition is complete. This is a train wreck waiting to happen.

Regardless of Frontier's cash situation, they still wouldn't see fit to upgrade those systems. They will forever be the DSL 1.3 megs down wunderkinds! -- The weekend is here, grab a can of beer!

| Frontier is ok, until.... ...you get the bill. I had Frontier here recently. Saw decent speed from them. About 7 mbps down and 900 kbps up. (upload blows away standard RR in this area ) I would have kept the service too...but then the first bill showed up and the taxes and fees that you do not see on a cable provided internet service , showed up on the bill and their $29.95 a month special offer to me turned into something that was much more. So back to RR we went. But I have no complaints with the people at Frontier or the service that they were providing me. | |

| Frontier Bankruptcy Pool Hawaiian Tel made it about 18 months after their acquisition of Verizon Territory before going bankrupt.
Fairpoint is on the verge of bankruptcy less than 18months after their acquisition of Verizon Territory.
Frontier just posted a horrid earnings result, so how many months will they take for them to go bankrupt if their acquisition of Verizon Territory goes thru?
My prediction is 15 months.

| Well I certainly do not get those speeds from Frontier. I can't believe they are expanding when they have a very hard time servicing their existing customers. Customer service in the last year has taken a real nose dive. It will get worse when they take over those areas. Maybe it is time to move to satellite. | |
