Change?Maybe their customers can expect some real service, and have fiber everywhere.
Nope. Who am I kidding? | |

That was my first thought (kinda sad when a CEO steps down and you immediately hope for a positive change in company policy). But after 2 seconds I remembered reading: » Frontier: We Won't Be Expanding U-Verse Acquisitions [45] commentsStraight from the horse's mouth. Perhaps he was just touting the company line and he'll change track now that he's top dog? Most likely not, but one can hope.

Reminds me of Lisa Hook...This chick's bad decisions remind me of AOL's Lisa A Hook and her speech about dial up being around forever, back in 2002. She clearly wasn't though. And neither is this idiot woman.

Re: Reminds me of Lisa Hook...said by shmerl:Though surprisingly AOL still makes a lot of money form dial-up... Of course they do as there is no competition in most areas and people who live in the sticks have no choice between dial up or satellite and personally, I think I'd take dial up over satellite. Then there's these greedy companies that don't want to expand because there's not enough people in said area to make any money off from! Just got done working on a computer that belongs to a person who lives in said sticks and had a bad dial up modem. For some dumb reason her computer won't accept an internal modem, so had to order her an external modem! Come to find out she was using an external modem anyway but hadn't told me!!

And neither is this idiot woman. Sounds like she might have been right with all they money they still make from dial up. I dumped dialup in 1998 when I finally got a two way cable modem and had 5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. In 1997 I still had a one way cable modem so even though my download speeds were 1mbps, the upload was over a 56k modem.

Board/investors had enough of Verizon's junk "assets"?Perhaps the board and/or investors have had enough of her buying Verizon's junk "assets". Maybe they are looking to the future and realizing their current strategy is going nowhere.....

Re: Board/investors had enough of Verizon's junk "assets"?You can't do tasks such as buying assets like that without the board's approval..
But yes, I hope things change for the better (TX FIOS user here)..

Re: Board/investors had enough of Verizon's junk "assets"?Think of Frontier as the naive buyer of an off-lease car that was never maintained from Carmax. They overpaid for the car and bought an expensive service contract (unions), and now they have to take the car and run it into the ground to try to sweat the assets. So essentially Frontiers footprint will be 1990 Corollas before they are done... They may invest in wipers and some off color brakes, but man this is basic transportation. No Google Mercedes here...

The new bossThe new boss has been with the company since 1990, so there is that. He worked up the ladder to this post.
No idea why Maggie is bailing out, perhaps McAdam and Shammo are rewarding her for her loyalty with a nice cushy job over at VZW.

Re: The new bossYes, the story of McCarthy sounds similar, but there are some major differences. He came up through Frontier's non-telecom business assets in electric energy and water. His first telco related position at the company was from 2004 on as the head of broadband operations and then field operations until becoming COO in 2006.
I would wager to say that his expertise is in electric utilities rather than telecom. But having a different perspective is not necessarily a bad thing.
We need to wait and see. | |

Re: Wilderotter is not going anywhereYes, this shouldn't say stepping down but stepping up. She is moving to lead the board of directors and her number 2 is going to become CEO. I can't imagine anything is going to change.

Re: Wilderotter is not going anywhereThe only thing I see changing is more acquisitions from both Verizon and AT&T.

FinallyNow lets take a break from Frontier buying Verizon market and roll out gigabit. Now I will actually try out Frontier in LA once it arrives. Check list I want. 1. deploy a better dvr 2. deploy gigabit both ways 3. upgrade your upstream speeds 4. replace dsl with the Uverse product.
|
| |
Re: Finallysaid by OpTiC :4. replace dsl with the Uverse product. Try again. U-Verse is VDSL which is a form of DSL. Frontier licensed U-Verse, not Gigapower. Frontier should go all of the way and deploy fiber to the home (FiOS) not U-Verse.

Re: FinallyFrontier licenses FiOS too, so that doesn't change anything. Frontier has to rethink their strategy and return to their own legacy Fiber deployments. By legacy, I mean the Fiber deployments they put in some Greenfield areas before any sort of Verizon acquisition went through.

By legacy, I mean the Fiber deployments they put in some Greenfield areas before any sort of Verizon acquisition went through. Sorry for the late post having problem with dsl reports that is what I was going to say. It's alot cheaper and it's pretty much adding fiber and a vrad. Uverse is a VDSL product or a adsl 2 product without a vrad. When did I say gigapower. Gigapower is part of Uverse but it is a tier. I know the fios part isn't happening.

By legacy, I mean the Fiber deployments they put in some Greenfield areas before any sort of Verizon acquisition went through. Frontier licenses the FiOS trademark for marketing purposes only. There is nothing proprietary-wise in their FiOS deployments. They own rights to the video IMG 1.8 and have their own content acquisition deals. Vz is not involved in this arrangement at all. It'll be interesting to learn the details of any IP arrangements with the new ca/tx/fl deal. I was a bit surprised that they renewed the original 2 year license. For purposes in the NW and Indiana, the luster of FiOS wore off pretty quickly - (it never was a household name after 5 yrs), so it would have behooved FTR to just rename the PON service Frontier Fiber when the 2 yr deal came up. Of course now this all changes with the new ca/tx/fl deal where FiOS is 10+ yrs old and definitely an established brand.
