| Re: A dumb question IMAP. The mail stays on the Gmail servers and isn't downloaded to your device taking up space. Plus, it's always sync'd regardless of your access method, messages are consistent with respect to the "seen" flags and you don't have to download that file with the attachment to get to the rest of your mail. | |

If POP work fine for you, there is no reason to change. But IMAP offers the advantage of being able to reset the message flags and keep the messages in one central location. | |

Why choose IMAP rather than POP3 with "leave mail on server"? With POP3 "leave mail on server" only your email messages are on the server, but with IMAP your email folders are also on the server. | |

Its pretty neat and its free for the standard edition which is all you need. | |

For ages, companies like Fastmail and others were charging us exorbitant fees for IMAP with only small storage. Now, I really can envisage having a lifetime's worth of email stored on gmail, accessible no matter what computers I have over the next few decades. Thanks, Google, for not being miserly, like Microsoft etc, by being willing to give us IMAP, even though this form of email does not have the targeted AdWords. Don't worry. We'll be loyal to google search, and also I make use of the webmail as the first point of viewing emails. | |

| How folders work Imap will work great for a friend of mine that hates conversations. One question though. How does this affect how folders work or labels as they are called in gmail? Like, do you creat folders (labels) in gmail and they will show up in OE?

| | HTML? I've recently switched from POP access to IMAP on my home PC, my laptop and my Samsung Blackjack.
The synchronization is nice, but my Blackjack only displays the header of HTML email's...no content.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Any ideas for a solution?
