German News Outlet Says T-Mobile Finalizing Sprint Merger Plan
Sprint stock price jumped notably today after a German news outlet reported that T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom is finalizing its plan to merge T-Mobile with Sprint. The report claims that the all stock deal would culminate with Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile taking managerial control over the merged company, with an eye on keeping T-Mobile's current winning strategy somewhat intact (though the reduction in overall competition would likely change things). The news of a formal merger plan comes on the heels of a report last month indicating that the two sides had already begun informal merger talks.

Well...

At least it seems like the people who are at the helm of T-Mobile will continue being at the helm of the newly formed company. Mergers are usually not good for consumers since it results in less competition but at least with John Legere at the helm it may not be quite so bad.

Here's to hoping that the combined company will continue giving AT&T and Verizon that bloody nose that they both so richly deserve.

Win Win All Around

No huge merger costs to cover because of the all stock deal.

This is not another Nextel deal as there is a convergence going on anyway.

There is only one question -

How big a pound of flesh AT&T/Verizon can extract by whining about the combined spectrum assets.

Wait A Min

I thought Softbank was going to buy Tmobile and then just merge it with Spring with the T Mobile management running things. I also thought Deutsche Telekom wanted out of the US Market. So maybe this wont be as bad as we originally thought.

If you're a Sprint customer...

and you haven't gone to an unlimited plan you better do it now before they eliminate them.

Son is out...

as an exec, may still be an active investor
it's the best likely outcome
plenty of spectrum
retail success via t-mo

And then there were three......

So how long is my sweetheart plan going to last?

I have a Sprint Everything Data 1500 (ED1500).
VERY cost effective for the 4 phones in my plan.
Very decent coverage here in Chicagoland (one of Sprint's favorites).
I still can get a subsidized iPhones from Apple ($450 off retail each).

So what happens to all of this post-merger?
Is the merged entity still required to honor pre-merger plans etc. ?
