Google, Boingo Team Up for Free Wi-Fi Across 4,000 Hotspots, iPhone Users Not Invited In addition to free Wi-Fi in Kansas City, at airports, in New York City Parks and at their Mountain View campus, Google has been teaming up with Boingo to bring free Wi-Fi to NYC subways, airports, and most recently eight malls nationally. This week Boingo and Google announced that they're continuing to expand the venture, offering free Wi-Fi across 4,000 additional hotspots, located at 15 leading airports, the New York City subway, shopping centers, stadiums and "thousands of hotels, restaurants and recreational areas." According to the press release, Wi-Fi at many of these hotspots will be free for the rest of September, though there's one caveat: only Android smartphone users can access the Wi-Fi (PCs and Macs are also supported).

| | | | Re: Great, I guess. Ironic,The announcement happened today and we are in sept 11 | |
| | | | | Re: Great, I guess. We all remember what happened on 9-11 but I fail to see how an announcement for free WiFi is ironic because of it? | |
| | | | | | Re: Great, I guess. Not talking about the things that happen on sept 11 but I'm talking about the time of it. Had they announce this before sept 1 then it would be ok....ps I did lost a family member in the WTC. | |

| | | | | | | | | Re: Great, I guess. I'm also sorry to hear you lost someone but I still fail to understand what that has to do with making an announcement on that day? Do you disagree with making announcements on days tragedy's took place in general? We have had many tragedy's throughout our history so should nobody make any kinds of announcement s on those days too? Is it just announcements or should we do nothing on days of tragedy's. Hmmmmm before Sept 1st would be okay so actually your against announcements for a whole week leading up to the day a tragedy took place. How long should people wait after? Another week?
For the record we all lost on that day. Yes some more than others. I lost 2 family members (firefighters) and a friend who worked in one of those towers. Now I'm not comparing losses hut I think your statement connecting an announcement for free WiFi on 9-11 is rediculous.
| | | | | | | | | | Re: Great, I guess. Thank you and sorry for your tragedy. The reason why I said it was ironic was that how in the heck you made this kind of announcement that day instead of the first or before the month started so that the consumer can be ready and take advantage of the deal. a month only has 30 or 31 days so if you take 11 days out of it you only give the consumer 20 or so days. sometimes even less if you don't frequent the places that has the free wifi. | |
| | | | | | | | | | | Re: Great, I guess. Ahhhhhhhhh now that makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation, not that you owed me one. | |

Google gives Apple a taste of their closed shop marketing. This should be fun to watch. Only time will tell but I see the beginning of the downward slide for Apple.
| | | | | | Thank you Whatnow. Now limiting Apple users by cutting them of free wifi is a bad idea. That never seems to help anybody's cause specially googles since you know you can attract more customers by giving then what the other company is not giving then. Only time will tell if googles ideas will help or hurt then | |

·Socket Internet ..
| Let apple connect... They need to let the apple devices connect, then direct them to a captive portal with a picture of Ralph Wolf saying "sorry, apple sheep, no free wifi for you!"
