I like Google but..I'm tired of them getting into everything they possibly can only to support it half way and then pull the service shortly thereafter. Their support of Google Voice has been ridiculous. There's talk about them bundling it into Hangouts, but nothing has happened. As someone who uses my Google Voice number all the time, I hope to have some clarity on this as soon as possible.

Re: I like Google but..I use GV through Hangouts on a daily basis (Win 8.1). Except for a longish delay when I try to answer calls, it seems to work fine. Are you referring to one of the mobile clients?
My one beef with my GV is that it was impossible to get SMS from certain automated systems because some issue that was related to Sprint numbers. The problem is I ported to TMO and as far as GV cares my number is still with Sprint and I still can't use SMS to do some very specific tasks like Pay Pal 2-factor codes.
But somehow I can get automated SMS traffic from pretty much everyone else, so I am not ready to blame GV for this one.

Re: I like Google but..Have you updated the carrier from Sprint to T-Mobile in the GV settings? If not try clicking the gear in the upper right, go to settings, and then under your mobile number click edit, you should then see "carrier" as the last option, if it says Sprint then click Check Carrier and it should update to T-Mobile.

GV is especially weird about confirmation and automated SMS from practically anywhere, regardless of carrier. Some work here and there, most simply do not.
Regular messages from real people are also intermittently delayed sometimes for minutes or well beyond.
Even more frustrating -- notifications don't always work, either. Or you'll get your message, but not until you manually refresh the app twice, maybe restart a few times, manually refresh again, log out and back log in, then presto! ... message that should've been delivered 5 hours ago decides to hit your inbox.
Gmail is great and rarely fails. GV, eh not so much.

Re: I like Google but..It's kind of funny how it works so well for some complex things, yet it fails at things that to us should be simple.
I have a work-issued VoIP Cisco phone since I telecommute. The way that works is we have X lines fed into a Cisco telco rack wherever the hell we colo our stuff. Each of us that works remotely has one of those Cisco phones, which hit the telco rack through a VPN.
You would think that if you are on 75/35 FIOS, and your telco rack is on a monster colo with fantastic connectivity, that the phone system would be flawless. Nope, many times it sounds worse than a bad POTS line.
GV on a PC in the same FIOS connection? 99% of the time it sounds like if I am talking to the person in the same room.

It doesn't allow SMS (to my knowledge) and the interface seems a bit clunky. I'm all for the transition to Hangouts, but I need the features that GV offered as well.

Re: I like Google but..GV works fine. The concern of many is the multiple communications platforms Google has. Many also mistakingly assume that GV is a full up VoIP service, which it's not. GV could be so much more out of the box but it's languished since Google acquired GrandCentral and Gizmo5 5-7 years ago.

The iOS app is in need of a refresh (it has been for a long time) but I understand that iOS doesn't get top treatment on these apps. I'm sure they haven't updated because of the planned transition to Hangouts, I just don't like things to be left up in the air since I rely on GV so much.

Easy Domain buying services boon for criminalsJust 1 more service making life easy for internet criminals buying domains to steal from the honest population. Getting or changing domains should be VERY difficult to do - not easy. Getting a domain should mean a human being showing up in person and identifying themself thru verifiable documents as to who they are and where they live. It should not be anonymous. Want to stop crime on the internet, no more anonymous buyers of domains

Google collects all your data, and sells it, if you agree to their TOS and use their services.
The NSA collects all your data, and keeps it, whether you agree or not.
Two sides of the same coin?

Re: Where's my invite?Gotta agree with DeLiver ... For me, the price increases and higher renew fees are forcing me to transfer my domains, which is a pain in the arse with you have for than a few domain names. I'll wait it out and see if Google can do it right.

They're not in everything...Google is actually getting out of the ISP wholesale email business. Any ISP's using Gmail today have to move off all their subs before the end of 2015. Which is shitty because they use a lot of custom shit that makes it a pain in the ass to move everything over easily to another mail service (contacts, folders, etc...).
