Still need an XM Online SubscriptionThis is nothing more than XM offering an app for the devices/televisions. You will still need to have an XM/Sirus subscription, PLUS the online/mobile access (at an additional fee).
Seems like a lot of press for a subscription app that still won't make me coffee.

Re: Still need an XM Online Subscriptionsaid by 25139889:did you think they would let this out for free? Well, the press release really didn't mention that it required a subscription. Rather, it made it seem that you didn't need a subscription without saying it. Really a marketing fail to make that really apparent.

$the pay-tv (cable) subscription model is fading fast and google would be smart to steer clear of the online version. they should stick to doing what is the future.. multi-gigabit internet access to the home and expand.
|
| |
Re: $Fading fast eh? Vonage started VoIP more than 10 years ago, there are STILL millions upon millions of landlines. The TV model that you declare as "fading fast" will still be here for decades, it will NOT erode nearly as fast as landlines.

where is it fading at? The customers that one company loses all go to another company. Telco TV has shown a huge increase in customers. And these customers bounce back and forth all the time for the best deal- you can even see it being discussed on here. CATV will not go away. There still will be someone who wants it and someone willing to pay for it. Especially those out in the sticks with no internet to get an online source. DirecTV/Dish will be there to pick those customers up.

AnnouncementThere is supposed to be an announcement today at Google I/O for the Google TV that will dramatically improve the situation. Rumors are pointing to a new version of Google TV that addresses a lot of the shortfalls. Also, the Sony device is an epic fail of usability, but the Vizio device that was announced yesterday at half the price ($99) looks like it could be a nice one. Especially since it supports 1080p MKV playback. » www.vizio.com/costar/overview

Adios Google TVLook googles short falls are simple. Too many different version of their G tv that are incompatible with other or the usual no apps for then or nothing to watch besides youtube. Besides the king of the internet tv are not going to let G tv take up(Apple,Roku etc etc)

Re: Adios Google TVApple? Your kidding, right? Who pays for Apple tv? Roku, yes! I never understood why do the likes of Sony and Google (and Apple) want to charge people for stuff that's free already? I had a sony media tv player w/blue ray all of 2 days and took it back. Got a roku instead. Some companies should just stick to what they do best and stop trying to venture into areas they have no reason to.

Re: Adios Google TVCompared to the iProducts & computer departments, Apple TV's not exactly where they want it to be. It's still seems to be a pet project if anything.
|
| | | | | | |
Re: Adios Google TVCorrect and like i said if you try to purchase the 720P Apple Tv you will see it still selling quite well and so is the 1080P version, something the competition wish they could do.

Re: Adios Google TVBut barely anyone buys an Apple TV, and buying integrated solutions and/or standalones like Roku instead. That's why they're making money hand over fist, and Apple TV still remains Apple's fledgling "pet product".
Just because Apple is happy where their product currently stands doesn't mean that they're selling well.
|
| | | | | | | | |
Re: Adios Google TVIt is selling well since you know Apple hasn't cut the price like Roku did.

Re: Adios Google TVBut Apple doesn't cut the price on anything, regardless of how it sells.
|
| | | | | | | | | |
Re: Adios Google TVTrue but the demand is high for the Apple tv . So why lower the price if the consumer wants to buy.

Re: Adios Google TVWe're getting in a circular logic loop here:
• Apple TV sells well because the price doesn't drop. • The price doesn't drop on Apple TV because it sells well.
This is a "Built Ford Tough" kind of argument.
|
| | | | | | | | | |
Re: Adios Google TVI just go with what actually counts and what counts is the sales and what is selling well. I don't go with "blog sites surveys" since they can't be fix to target a particular audience. Also the ford tough is also subjective to you liking the brand or not. Hence why i only go with sales because if not then Google tV would be number one if you listen to fandroid site..LOL

Re: Adios Google TV"Built Ford Tough" is an example of cyclical logic. Every item is as good/bad/tough/whatever as itself.
Thus, why your "it sells well because the price doesn't go down" and "the price doesn't go down because it sells well" is a meaningless statement.

Hulu standard doesn't carry as much and has more interruptions. And it seems roku is easier to set up and works well streaming video off my media server, or in pinch, plug in a use and just watch from there. So, for portability, putting a few dozen movies on a 200gb portable usb drive then plugging it up to the roku has all but removed the need for a blue ray player except on the PC.

| | | | |
Re: Adios Google TVyes Hulu on the pc works ok too many interruptions and yes Hulu + is better. I do the same for my Apple tv everything is connected. Ipod,Ipad and when friends bring their laptops or iphones.

Dude the problem is that G tv will always fail when it has to face Apple,Roku or even WD tV. PS like @Fronkman says you want Netflix or Hulu you still have to pay

Re: Adios Google TVsaid by Eddy120876:Dude the problem is that G tv will always fail when it has to face Apple,Roku or even WD tV. PS like @Fronkman says you want Netflix or Hulu you still have to pay No, Roku is free. Some of the content providers charge. Just like my sony Blue ray. If I want anything to work on it, I have to pay. So, I have my Hulu+ and Amazon Prime account there. I also have a sling shot for my Dish dvr so i can stream on my phone or tablet when I'm not at home. All I'm saying is, I brought home a Sony blue ray media device that offered G tv. I wasn't going to pay for stuff I could get for free. Then, I got the Roku. Hulu+ won on a coin toss. I paid a couple of bucks for hub-d-pub and I get Amazon prime and Epix for free (thanks to dish). Maybe roku is getting a kickback from those guys, but my charge card shows Hulu+, not roku.

Re: Adios Google TV@tc1uscg
yes Roku is free thats why i said why G TV has a stiff competition to get people away from Roku,Apple or DW.
