Google White Spaces Database Goes Online Next Week One More Step Toward White Space Broadband Deployment Friday Mar 01 2013 08:44 EDT Jon Brodkin over at Ars Technica directs our attention to the fact that Google's White Space database will be coming online officially next week. As designated in FCC guidelines unveiled in late 2011, Google is one of several companies tasked with maintaining a database that will allow white space broadband powered devices to detect and avoid nearby potential unlicensed spectrum interference. If the tests go well, the database could be up and running shortly thereafter -- one tiny step toward finally making white space broadband options available to the masses. This FCC notice (pdf) has slightly more detail. |
