HBO's Streaming Only Service Likely $15 Per Month
Sources tell The Information that HBO's recently announced streaming service will likely cost consumers at least around $15 per month. More specifically, the report claims the service will match HBO's existing cable price tag of $15, seemingly implying it could easily be more. As the report notes, a 2013 survey of broadband-only customers by the Diffusion Group found that only 6% were "moderately or highly likely" to sign up for a broadband HBO service priced at $15. Depending who you ask, this week's announcements of streaming services by HBO means either content prices are dropping, or prices for these services ultimately won't be that much different from traditional TV.

I'm gonna pass

Gotta stay under $10 post tax for me. That's my (and many others) price ceiling for online streaming.

I mean we're already paying for the transport and the equipment...

Customers didn't want it

I see this failing in a big way. If only 6% was willing to pay $15 I don't think those numbers have improved. So, they will bring it out at $15 a month, kill it after a year, and say we tried, but not enough people wanted it. They would be much better off reaching a deal with Netflix, Amazon, or a similar service already in place.

I think $10 a month, or less, is the price you need to hit to be any kind of success. Of course it will depend on how many "channels" you get for your $15 a month. Sorry, I don't watch enough programmed television to make $15 a month be worth my while.

Ad free?

I would consider streaming HBO at $15 per month as long as there are NO ads. If HBO gets greedy and inserts ads I wouldn't consider it at ANY price.
