HTC G2 Coming Next Spring?
Unconfirmed reports on unconfirmed reports

You've probably barely gotten over your enthusiasm (or lack thereof) for the T-Mobile HTC G1, only to now learn that there's a G2 planned for a spring release, according to the Boy Genius Report. The next incarnation of the Android-powered phone will be released for multiple carriers, and won't technically be called the "G2" (that's a T-Mobile trademark). The next version will be a full touch device (no QWERTY keyboard) and will still have a trackball. The Boy Genius Report's vague and nebulous rumor is a follow up to an even more vague and nebulous report by Cell Phone Signal.

HTC G2

Okay so yea, I heard from a reliable person that they are (TMobile) is coming out w/ a G2 in August of 2009. It will have a "HD" screen, a full keyboard, and it will tilt.

G1 is just not quite ready yet

I'm in the situation that my contract is almost up and I want to next go with either the G1 or apple's iphone, but I decided to wait because neither are currently in the state I want.

The iphone is the closest except for its lack of multitasking and closed software, and the g1 is great except for the current lack of development (I'm a big fan of open source and expect that to change significantly in the short run).

By the time the G2 comes out, I think I may just be ready to jump on it

Re: G1 is just not quite ready yet

No matter when you get it, what you get, it will be old school in 3 months, barely have the software bugs removed but you can't upgrade for 2 years.

It's getting to be a silly game.

Plus your circle will shrink in the coming years as your friends won't be paying their bill, won't have the money to go to bar.

Time to go back to the Motorola Brick. Sen McCain has one for sale.

Go the windows mobile route then, I have a AT&T Tilt myself and despite the bugs from AT&T introduced from removing/altering the OS it still is a good phone. There are plenty of applications out there to do whatever you fancy. I think there was even a porn download application out there. It defiantly feels like its crippled but for a pocket pc phone, I really enjoy it (coming from a developers point of view) especially when you can write an application in VB.Net and just copy it over and it works (you can make apps in C++ or C# but most people don't want to learn those boring languages )..

That is DEFINITELY not the route I want. I do not have a single windows-running computer at home or at work. Just Linux primarily and a mac here and there.

It is NOT convenient nor worthwhile for me to develop windows applications without actually running windows.

And there is nothing wrong with C++, I would certainly not classify it as "boring."

You must be kidding?! Windows Mobile has got to be the worst mobile OS created. Everytime they release a new version, it seems to be buggier than the previous.

Re: G1 is just not quite ready yet

I wouldn't go that far. I'm VERY happy with my Touch Diamond - and so far I've only had a few "bug" issues or crashes and they were caused by 3rd party software (Seven push email). I personally think that the windows mobile OS is the best out there for business professionals - and more choices for software compared to Palm or Blackberry.

I do very much like the idea of the Android OS and I wanted one but I just couldn't wait for the G1 to come out - not to mention I would go insane on T-Mobile's network - I have to deal with it enough when I'm in Europe and I'm not going to do it in the States. But I guess to each their own.

WM6.1 is rock solid on the HTC Fuze. Microsoft Direct Push works flawlessly with my Exchance 2007 server.

I also have the htc fuze on att's network. ireset the device and made it not install the att stuff and its a great phone. a lot faster without the att stuff there.

Next step is maybe android on the phone.

HTC Touch Pro with WinMo 6.1. It runs fantastic. Better and less buggy than the Treo 700wx (Windows Mobile 5) I had before.

I'm not sure what you mean by lack of development, but this is whats slated to be released in January for the g1.

Someone make up their mind....

One report says January 2009, another August 2009, etc.

Until we have a definitive date with something on the FCC website saying this phone has approval, I won't believe it.

It may be a great phone but...

T-Mobile is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to service and coverage area. It might be cheaper than the other guys but it does come at a cost. I ditched AT&T for T-Mobile to purchase the G1 and I love the phone, its great. In the last two months of having the T-Mobile account, i've been forced to call the billing department four times. Three of the times was trying to get my account fixed and billing problems resolved (I wasn't supposed to be charged an activation fee and I get a discount because of where I work). The last time I called, I was told to ignore the activation fee on the bill and pay the rest of the bill and that next months bill will reflect a credit in the same amount as the activation, so I did that. Now I wake up and my phone is shut off due to being over due a week for $35 dollars.

I'm getting ready to break out the $200 dollars and cancel my service and go back to AT&T with my G1.
