that does look interesting...i wonder what they do, or how they actually do the hacking without the aid of the internet. -- Check out my website! www.ubertainment.com

| Re: Nice.. Teams will be provided with a complete equipment setup designed to simulate operations in a real-world environment where they must defend their organizations equipment and resources against attempted penetration and exploitation by other teams.
Each team will be required to penetrate, exploit, secure access and obtain privileged information from the other teams servers, for the purpose of corporate espionage. THE BATTLEFIELD You are an organization running: o a public web server o a public ftp server o an internal filesharing server containing sensitive/confidential information plus a bonus clue.
You cannot allow these services to be down or disconnected or information to be stolen. You will need to engage in corporate espionage against other teams. THE MISSIONS o Defend your turf against the other teams. o Exploit other teams' equipment/resources by all means necessary (subject to ground rules). o Obtain confidential information (customer database information/files) from other teams. o Bonus Objective! Assemble the clue-sentence from portions of a special file that each team has on their servers to find the bonus objective for bonus points!

OOps, I remember now! from cisco class, we use some router, hubs, swithes to make connection, there was no internet. I can wrong. can some let me know, is there any other connection.

| Re: Nice.. they use dialup modems, port scanning, DOS attacks, brute force, anything the real world is using.
Remember, they cannot shutdown the system, so it must be on all times. 2 men team, 1 primarily will be for defense while the other offense, sharing info to aid each other. They could also do simu attack and defense when needed.
They are also in a intranet where it looks like the internet xept only servers these ppl can see are each others. Similar to the real world where web servers are available to anyone, file server is available to anyone, web/file server is connected to their own LAN.
This is pretty cool and it does apply to the real world scenerio, only a smaller scale. -- If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it. If it's broken, buy a new one.

Silly People! Don't you know hackers have Apple laptops that jack into super cool 3d worlds on the server whilst running away from the cyber defender bots!

| Re: Silly People! Since I've been watching the Olympics this week, I figured they should have some "degree of difficulty" for the systems they're defending. Something like +100 bonus points for using an unpatched windows flavor as their OS....OTOH, that might be an unfair advantage if they just rigged it to crash every time something accessed it. Can't hack it if it keeps rebooting....

| Real ones aren't public All these open public HackAttack challenges are fine. It serves a function and tickles the publics fancy.
But the real Black Hats aren't competing in these silly public displays of scrip kiddiedom. The real competition takes place in secrecy and obscure locations. These are by nature, secretive and exclusive. You cannot just show up. You need an invitation. The last one that I attended was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2002. There was even a teenager working for the NSA that attended that one.
The preceding has entirely been a load of BS
