Hewlett-Packard Unveils Virus Throttling Router

US GIANT Hewlett-Packard Company has unveiled a unique 'virus throttling' solution that is shipped with HP's ProCurve range of networking products that are made for global consumption in Singapore. The program runs on the 5300 series of ProCurve switches and helps network managers detect and contain malicious worms. Pricing for the ProCurve Secure Router 7000dl series begins at $3,134. The virus throttle is a free software upgrade for customers of the ProCurve 5300xl switch. According to IDC Corp, ProCurve grew its market share of the networking switch market from 1.9 per cent in 2003 to 2.2 per cent last year. The market in the Asia-Pacific outside of Japan was worth US$2.06 billion in 2003, and grew 19 per cent to US$2.46 billion in 2004.
