by rusdi Saturday 23-Nov-2002
Contrary to expectations, dieters` cholesterol levels do not shoot through the roof, and they take off more weight than do people on a standard low-fat regimen

It always made me laugh to see "fat free" foods in which the FIRST ingredient was sugar. Guess what? SUGAR is fat free! But with all those empty carbohydrates, you can make plenty of your own fat --- they body is very efficient and producing fat when fueled properly.

One thing Rusdi, this diet is close to "all or nothing" in it's effectiveness. If you mess up the approach, you will gain weight like mad. The trick is to REALLY keep the carbos down, to trick your body into thinking you are starving. If you trip the carbo threshold AND increase your fat intake, you get a double-whammy of weight-gaining trouble.

It may sound good and easy at first, but that T-bone is just not the same without that baked spud -- and one tablespoon of that baked spud might put you over your 20-gram per day carbo limit. Bunless burgers get old pretty fast too. It's more restrictive than the superficial stories seem to indicate.

Re: Interesting

Agree..That's probably why so many people gain back the weight after..They start to "indulge" themselves in all those sweet treats that they have been depriving themselves of & as you say "a double whammy" effect.
I think it is interesting that High fat foods seem to NOW be found to perhaps not be the culprit in high cholesterol problems as was always thought.
Personally, (and by no means scientific, just a hunch) I think alot has to do with genetics & exercise..I know of plenty of old slim & healthy people who eat red meat & eggs & everything the common wisdom of today says they shouldn't.
All these things are FOOD!! God put on this earth for us to eat..I believe maybe he didn't intend for us to be as sedentary as we have become..

The key is to cut out the carbs

Meaning sugars and starches. THEY are what put on the weight. Dr. Atkins was right all along.
