JPAC has reported that their three recovery missions (in 2005, 2006, and 2008) to the underwater crash site of B-24 '453 were a total success! They recovered remains of all eight crewmembers who went down with this aircraft on 1 September 1944. Five of the crewmembers were positively identified, but they have insufficient structural and DNA information to make positive identifications of the other three. JPAC knows who the three are, they just can't tell which is which. So we understand that there will be a group service for those three, who will be buried together at Arlington National Cemetery.

A man said he saved his dog's life after sucking venom from a rattlesnake bite out of the animal's nose. Bobby Jenkins said he began feeling ill after getting his dog, Tank, to a veterinarian. He went to the hospital and received a dose of antivenin.
In all, Jenkins needed four vials of antivenin at a cost of $3,500 per vial.
Meanwhile, Jenkins said his dog's head swelled up to three times its normal size. Tank had been bitten after running under some equipment on the family ranch.
The dog also received antivenin and both Jenkins and his dog have recovered.

The use of online classifieds sites, such as Craigslist, has more than doubled in the past four years, according to a study published Friday by the Pew Research Center. At the same time that Web classifies are on the rise, the classifieds business that newspapers once depended on has collapsed, the Pew Internet & America Life Project found.
A graph of newspaper classified ad revenue since 1980 to last year (at bottom) shows that the industry saw a high in 2000 with about $19.6 billion. Last year, newspapers recorded $9.9 billion.
That's a plunge in revenue of about 49 percent.

| | Monkeys terrorize India workers, tourists »www.chinadaily.com.cn/en/doc/200···7874.htm
In a capital city where cows roam the streets and elephants plod along in the bus lanes, it's no surprise to find government buildings overrun with monkeys.
But the officials who work there are fed up. They've been bitten, robbed and otherwise tormented by monkeys that ransack files, bring down power lines, screech at visitors and bang on office windows. Macaque monkeys are crafty pickpockets, know how to open refrigerators, and brazenly snatch lunch pails from government workers.

| | iHas iPhone (3G). Yea. I bought my girlfriend's friday and used it friday & saturday because it took activating a new 3rd (out of 3 available) line on our family plan to get the $199.99 discount. Her being 55 miles away & at work + me not being able to go give it to her + complications that may arise by her having to stop using her present number the moment i get home & pull the plug on the old second line = she gets it tomorrow when she comes for memorial day grill out.
I am thoroughly satisfied with the device, its capabilities, battery life, performance, and overall ability to replace her phone & mine (when mine is delivered tues/weds) without issue. Even though i've seen the demos, the keynote, etc, it still amazes me. I didn't think it would, but it still did.
Lot of people i'm sure are curious about battery life. If you have on 3G, location services, and push services, you'll get about 6 hours total use, just like a 'book. If you turn off 3G, location services, and push services, along with locking it when in the pocket/holster, you should get a good day's worth of use. Turning on airplane mode when you have no signal also makes a huge difference, as low to no signal = phone works harder to maintain network connection. Wifi also better than cell based data. For most of saturday airplane mode (no cell functionality, similar to iPod Touch actually) plus wifi only gave me an abundance of battery life. All of this being said, i will likely get that case that has a built in battery pack to ensure i have enough juice to go a full day without worry. Even my razr v3 gets low on battery after a day of texting, so i'm quite satisfied with iPhone's battery performance.
I would also like to take a moment to publicly on this forum specifically thank AT&T mobility for helping us navigate the numerous issues that arose while trying to do all of this, including waiving a line termination fee, giving us billing credit, and other "above & beyond" service that me & my girlfriend will remember for a long, long time. Just proves why i've been with them since 2005, and will continue to be with them contract or not for the foreseeable future.

| Credit Card lesson... If all the people with credit card debt (from $1 to $10Ks) just didn't pay. If they all just said NO, this is not acceptable with the increases, and no one paid their bills, for two months, the credit cards companies would fail. Such irony that the government will bail out the banks, allow them to raise the interest to 22.9% or more, and penalize the borrower. And now, those that just borrow (use card) and pay off at end of month before any interest, YOUR days are over too. Annual fees for ALL. No perks, no points. Nothing. And no grace period.
Have a nice Memorial Day! -- Weeeeeeee!
|
| | | Re: Credit Card lesson... They wouldn't fail. They'd just sell all those accounts to collections agencies, who would then go after the non-payers with a vengeance.
But you may be right about annual fees, no perks, and such. I'm one of those people who pay my bill at the end of each month, and if the credit card companies try to squeeze me, I'll cut the cards up and close my accounts. I use them as a convenience, so I have no urgent need to have them. They make plenty of money off me from percentages charged to merchants, but if they get greedy, I'm gone. I can use cash, checks, debit cards, and electronic transfers, so the credit card companies need me far more than I need them.

| It's because they are greedy.
Even if you always pay your card off, the credit card company makes a healthy profit off you anyway, because they charge the merchant every time you use it.
Anywhere from 2-5% of the total dollars of the sale goes right into their pockets. So don't buy this crap of "People who pay off their balance every month are a liability" and remember, I am sure the banks WILL try to find other ways to increase profits now that some of the more predatory practices are banned.... but even so, that's not the lawmakers fault.
If there is competition, and not collusion, you shouldn't see hardly any changes.... but we'll see how the banks band together to increase profits. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
