Hurricane Charley victims seek Federal Help; scam alert issued

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Tens of thousands of Florida storm victims who suffered the most severe damage from Hurricane Charley are now searching for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to Local 6 News.

Local 6 News reported that there have been reports of people trying to get Social Security numbers or bank routing numbers by claiming to be with FEMA. Residents should look for an official FEMA ID card or call the authorities before handing over personal information.

someone actually called me yesterday saying they were from the red cross and were callin for donations, asked for banking info for $10. "sure, the name of my bank is F.U. Credit Union"
