Insight CEO Addresses Comcast Split
Transfer to occur before the end of this year...
by Karl Bode Friday 06-Apr-2007 tags: business · exclusive · cable
Last week we mentioned that nearly half of Insight Communications customers will now be Comcast customers, after the two companies unwound a partnership that began when Comcast acquired AT&T Broadband. Insight CEO Michael Willner stops by our forums to address the deal and inform customers about the transition. According to Willner, the transition will occur "no later than the end of this year," and Insight is working closely with Comcast to make the process (hopefully) painless.

Willner also addresses concerns about Insight's viability going forward:
"Insight is the 9th largest cable operator in the United States and after the split it will be the 11th largest operator. There are many, many successful cable companies serving far fewer customers than the number we will retain. We have stated publicly that we are content to continue to operate our half of the company and, in due course, will consider all of our options."
"The BBR community has been extremely informative even if it is sometimes quite challenging," says Willner. He gets great kudos from us for being one of the few industry CEOs brave enough to be accessible to our forum regulars in the spirit of something that seems like a lost tradition: customer service.

M Willner "We have stated publicly that we are content to continue to operate our half of the company and, in due course, will consider all of our options."

I had been against Insight since the @home days because of the lousy service in my area. I will give them credit that things have been working really solid since mid January this year for me without even one line drop on the Internet and no TV outages. Now, that is a huge improvement. I figure the changes were done so Insight can sell out the rest of the service area after the Comcast deal is done.

Could be but it wouldn't surprise me if they kept Insight going. Wilner has gone through worse times and he has a much better management team now than he had then. But then if Comcast has the right money ----------------> off to Tahiti and little drinks with umbrellas.

Wilner

I just want to say as an Insight employee of Nothern Illinois, I am sad to see Insight leaving! I really enjoyed working for this company for the past six years. Mr. Willner is a good person and does care about his emplyees. I hope to work with him again in the future!!!!

Insight CEO Addresses Comcast Split

Having been a customer of both companies, I had favorable experiences with them both. I had a slight preference for Insight since they fielded 'on demand' service much earlier in this area than Comcast did (Comcast started the service late last year [I think]).
