Insight Communications has been hinting at launching faster (as in 50 Mbps) DOCSIS 3.0 service since last fall, though they've spent much of this year upgrading video customers to digital technology instead. One year later, a blog post by CEO Michael Willner indicates the company has launched 50 Mbps downstream, 5 Mbps upstream service in Evansville and Bowling Green, Kentucky for $95 a month. "If you're a Broadband 20.0 customer, you'll be receiving an email today inviting you to become one of the first to experience Broadband 50.0," says Willner. "Soon after, we will be advertising Broadband 50.0 to all our customers interested in upgrading their Internet connection."
I'm with you. Columbus is the red-headed stepchild of Insight. I'm still struggling to get by with my 512 upload speed, yet every week they mail me another flyer for Insight phone. How about offering something I actually want. It's about time they drop RR altogether and get Insight BB.
Sadly I'd leave for U-Verse if i was serviced by it, but even a less than 10 yr old neighborhood AT&T dosent feel is worthy of upgrades, heck i've had to fight just to maybe get 6meg DSL from them, when i know i can get it.
I am in Oldham County (NE of Louisville), and got my email inviting me to 50.0 today. Called, and after going through a few different people they confirmed the email invite was good. Requires a tech to come out though as they need to install a DOCSIS 3.0 modem (included in the price - no additional rental fee).
Funny, because they still said I could not upgrade to 30.0, yet will put me on 50.0. Guessing the legacy infrastructure was maxed, and they will roll out the DOCSIS 3.0 infrastructure slowly as bandwidth is available (ie: limited initially). Tech on the phone said full rollout was 1Q 2011 though.
I'm in Northern KY. 30.0 isn't available until Tuesday (yes, literally 6 days away) but couldn't schedule it, yet I can get 50.0 right now. So, I have 50.0 being installed on Friday. lol
Both require a DOCSIS 3.0 modem per the people I talked with. They said if I ordered 20.0 for the Friday install and wanted to upgrade to 30.0 a few days later when it was available, that they'd have to come back out to install the new DOCSIS 3.0 modem. They would NOT, under any circumstances , install the newer modem even knowing it would have saved them an install trip. Go figure!
