Intel is testing a new chip, dubbed "Rosedale," designed for long-distance, high-speed, wireless Internet access (WiMax). Rosedale is expected to be the first "system-on-a-chip" design for customer premise equipment that supports the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard.
Intel, the world's largest microprocessor manufacturer, has started supplying its customers with test versions of chips for wireless broadband Internet access.
