Iran Launches Government Run E-mail
The Better to Snoop on You, My Dear
Having already banned VPNs, filtered most popular websites, and taken steps to create their own more-isolated Internet, Iran has now launched their own "national e-mail service." The country is telling Iranians that use of this new government-run service is mandatory, and will allow them to communicate with the government and each other more "safely." "With the assignment of an email address to every Iranian, government interactions with the people will take place electronically," proclaims Iran's minister for information and communication technology Mohammad Hasan Nami. The service is not free but is, of course, unencrypted for your safety.

Individual mandate

Hmm...The Iranian government is mandating all Iranians to purchase and use a service they may or may not want? Sounds like the US health insurance law.

Iran and US aren't so different after all....

CIA and NSA are drooling ....

You can be sure that this has not gone unnoticed at the US spy agencies.

How long until someone floats this idea to be applied here in the US?

Re: Coming soon..

In France, the government-owned* postal service, La Poste, has been providing (optional) email service for years:

»www.laposte.com/content/ ··· t_EN.pdf

The red sign-up button at »www.laposte.net ("Créer ma boite") doesn't seem to work.

* "...La Poste was transformed from a state-owned company, to a private limited company, whose capital is entirely owned by the State...[in] 2009"

This proves how dumb a government can be

Ok, so they demand an unencrypted email service everyone has to use.

Alright Mr Smarty Pants, how do you prevent someone from encrypting the text and then pasting that into the body? Huh? How?

Idiots.

Very easy... You have them dragged in and shoot them when you find it.

Idiots.

1. Throw them in prison
2. Cut off a body part
3. Stone them
4. Hang them

The people of Iran don't think their govt. is dumb.

If you REALLY think that someone could just cut and paste an encrypted message into an email AND get away with it, you're either very young, very naive, or have lead a very sheltered life. The penalty for doing such a thing would be more than unpleasant.
