1 edit | Verzion dropped the price of their freedom plan Basically Verizon just dropped the price on their Verizon Freedom Value plan (non-VOIP). It used to be $39.95/month. I wonder how much of a profit they were making on it before that they didn't hesitate to decrease the price by 25%.

| whats funny is for 35 bucks you can get a loaded cell plan(Caller ID, voice mail and a reasonable ammount of minutes).
while on a land line the same money doesnt even get you caller ID. how much and how hard is it in truth to provide caller ID anyway? -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports

| Nice! This is one of the better things that have come down the pipeline in a while. Lower prices will help stop line-loss, and bring people back to Verizon. Let's just how long it takes to go nationwide with this pricing--so all of our customers can benefit. | |

I went back to POTS due to 911 issues with VoIP. I know things have improved recently, but I'm just not willing to take that chance again.
Living alone, and having a penchant for home improvement activities, I just don't like the idea of holding for 2 minutes for a 911 operator while I bleed to death from a Sawzall accident. -- Never ask what sort of a computer a guy drives. | copper voice has moderate quality, but ive never had a corded phone die in a power failure. even in the great 2003 blackout my phone was up the whole time. even after the cell towers ran down. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports

| Pricing.... I'm in Massachusetts and for the last six months have paid $39.99 for Verizon Freedom Essentials (includes: Home Voice Mail, Caller ID and Call Waiting). For $34.99, I had the alternative of going with just the Verizon Freedom Value (no extra services). For the extra $5/month, I felt those extra features were worthwhile.
It seems from the new pricing news, that in NJ and parts of NY (but not MA), they have simply dropped the Verizon Freedom Value plan by $5 to $29.99. In selected parts of NY, the Verizon Freedom Essentials plan has been dropped by $5 to $34.99.
However, in MA and almost everywhere else in the country... the rates stay the same.
Good news for NJ folks and folks in parts of NY but unfortunately no good news for the rest of us (just more news about something we can't get!)
I wonder if enough pressure was applied, we might be able to get Verizon to provide this fair price to everyone...not just a select few. With the recent victory on Verizon DSL charges, maybe this is within the realm of reason!

| nothing to see... it in a word: SUCKS.
1. NO features?!? 2. Overall higher cost?!? (when you include a $6 fcc line charge!! 3. Did verizon waive the copper installation price? Hell no!
So, to sum up, if you'e never had copper tap to your home, you will pay a pretty penny to install, pay high taxes, and bend over wide just to NOT get service from a competitor?!? Hmm, I'd pass..

| This that make ya go.. HMMM Maybe this voIP endorsing website BBR should starting using the word "comeback" when VoIP lines outnumber landlines. Cya in about 20 years. LOL.
I wonder ... what the chances are that this site will allow IPTV reviews.. and FiOS TV reviews considering they fully promote voIP reviews ? Hmm.. I dont see it happening.

1 edit | Re: This that make ya go.. HMMM Allways with the "plans" and "bundles". Just get a basic line for peanuts. you dont need their LD.
Just designate one of the "1010" carriers as your primary "dial 1" provider and pay 3-5 cents per minute IF YOU USE IT.
Ma bell (AT&T) will charge you 31 cents a minute for "local long distance" (outside your area code, LATA, or, 20 miles, whichever applies), or, about 26 cents a minute for intra state/interstate long distance.
I'm sure if you look, you will find Verizon, Qwest, Bell South and the rest are ALL the same.
Now you see why they were so hot to get into long distance
Why in hell would you pay them up front for service you dont use to begin with? Bundles are only a deal if you USE AN AMOUNT OF THE SERVICE THAT JUSTIFIES THE MONEY YOU PAY EVERY MONTH. If you dont use a lot of long distance, or, have a cellphone, why would you pay Ma Bell?
And, prices from the telcos will NEVER go down in any meaningfull amount except for limited "special" deals. They will allways have a gimmick of some kind to rip you off.
You bundle loving suckers need to remember that you are dealing with MA Bell. They have been ripping you off for decades and will continue to do so as long as you fall for their bullshit, it's as simple as that.

| local long distance is the biggest scam in telecom industry. nowdays the telco owns the whole state so what difference does it make if a call is across down or across the state its going over their lines and routers. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports | |
