Is FiOS Worth Moving For?
At least one webmaster thinks so...

Ars Technica found at least one person willing to move for the high-speed goodness known as Verizon FiOS. "I moved 10 minutes north of Seattle specifically for FiOS service," one webmaster tells Ars. "We push a lot of video to the web, and Comcast's 768k upload wasn't cutting it. Gear Live now has a 30 megabit down/15 megabit up connection. While customer service is horrendous (even ignoring possible security flaws that can result in easy identity theft), the FiOS connection is a Godsend for us."

As we mentioned earlier this week, cable's lack of upstream speed is going to be a competitive thorn in cable's side in FiOS markets for probably another year or so. At least until they can get DOCSIS 3.0 gear certified and deployed, or can get upstream channel bonding implemented in pre-certification gear.

Different Strokes

Im a "webmaster" and my upload is fine. If my site was dependant on video content and large uploads.. and I made money off of it I would move as well. Id probably have something dedicated.

But Jane and Joe Schmoe moving so they can have 15 up as opposed to 768-2mb up.. Not going to happen.

Different people have different needs. News worthy? WTF?

"THIS JUST IN! AL BENDOVER MOVED TO THE NEXT TOWN OVER SO HE CAN BE CLOSER TO THE TRAIN STATION AND LESSEN HIS COMMUTE TO WORK! THE PACE BUS COMPANY REEEEELLLLSSS AT THE LOSS OF HIS $1.00 A DAY FARE! TRAINS NOW TAKING OVER!!!"
