JetBlue Testing In-Flight E-mail, IM
But no web browsing....yet....
JetBlue acquired 1Mhz of spectrum last year at FCC auction, and has now equipped just one of the company's Airbus A320 planes with wireless broadband service. Nicknamed "BetaBlue," the plane is part of a partnership with Yahoo and RIM to offer in-flight broadband services. At the moment users are restricted to Yahoo e-mail and IM services while in flight, but the company is exploring their options. The JetBlue system is scheduled to make its debut Tuesday on Flight 641 from New York to San Francisco, according to the Associated Press.

Are You in the Laptop or No Laptop Section?

It used to be "Smoking or No Smoking" and now are we headed to "Laptop or No Laptop"?

A walled garden?

So let me get this straight...You can only get to Yahoo and Yahoo IM, right? Oh, you can use a crackberry. So the lure for those that don't use those services is.....?

Great!

Now you'll have something to do while JetBlue keeps you on the tarmac for nine hours.

c'mon already!

why is getting the internet on planes is taking FOREVER? i know cost is the main thing, but there is a huge market for this especially on long haul flights. even if the speeds are "FCC Broadband" at 128k, that is at least something.

wooohooo

As a private pilot and someone who flies on JetBlue for free. This announcement just made the airline even more appealing. I fly at least twice a month, and really wouldn’t mind being able to kill time by chatting with my friends back on terra firma or who knows, having the ability to catch up on work.
I’m just wondering if they are also equipping the planes with in-seat power outlets, now that could make things even better.

It's good to know that you are a private pilot - that makes a difference.

Yay!

It's a start.

JetBlue already gives great service, this will only add to it.

Sitting on the tarmac for nine hours? A one time incident. Name one airline who has not had at least one ridiculous delay....ever.
