Knology Hints At DOCSIS 3.0 Plans
100% upgraded by 2010...
by Karl Bode Friday 20-Feb-2009 tags: business · bandwidth · cable · Knology
As part of their earnings report, cable provider Knology (see our user reviews) says they're increasing 2009 capex by about fifteen percent, in order to expand broadband into a few select markets, as well as selectively deploy DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades. According to the carrier, roughly twenty percent of their network was supposed to be DOCSIS 3.0-enabled by the end of last year. That number is supposed to jump to fifty percent by the end of this year, with the rest of the upgrades completed by 2010. Speaking on a conference call about their earnings, Knology CEO Rodger Johnson says the upgrades will occur "on a market-by-market basis as the competition situation dictates."

"they're increasing 2009 capex by about fifteen percent"

Their "non compete" runs out soon. They'll be facing the FiOS Monster............................and their subscribers can't wait !!!!

Re: in Tampa Bay

non-competes are illegal. courts have ruled several times that a city can not elect to have one cable provider or one provider for anything.

if the customers wanted another cable provider bad enough they would have already figured that out.

But then again--i'm sure you're a big supporter some how of FiOS and how its putting a dent into the cable industry.

Always last.

They won't upgrade my area until Comcast does it first.
It's always a wait and see with Knology when it comes to upgrades, they never do anything first when it comes to tv and internet products.

Now if they would just do something about the massive lack of HD channels.
