(12-12) 15:58 PST -- Kohl's Corp. and Forever 21 Inc. won a joint bid to take over 46 former Mervyns stores for $6.25 million, the companies said Friday.

Department-store operator Kohl's will assume 31 of the locations, while trendy retailer Forever 21 will have 15 sites, pending approval by the court overseeing Mervyns' bankruptcy proceedings. Almost all the stores are in California.

Mervyns, based in Hayward, filed for bankruptcy in July and is in the process of holding liquidation sales in advance of shuttering its remaining 149 stores. At the time of the filing, Mervyns had about 175 stores in seven states.....

Zinfandel Square, Rancho Cordova (Sacramento County)

Forever 21 is taking over the Mervyns site in Salinas.
