| Competition Isn't competition a great thing? Chattanooga (where I'm from) is a relatively small market for both Comcast and AT&T, yet they are high on the list of the Uverse and DOCSIS 3 rollouts. I wonder why? Could it be a municipal fiber rollout? Chattanooga Electric Power Board is rolling out fiber optic to its whole installed customer base (160,000 customers) in the next 3 years. Would Chattanooga be getting this attention if there was no competition? -- If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is swimming. We always seem to be dead last in upgrades. Yup. I've asked around and my local Comcast contacts tell me nothing is happening yet down in SE FL for DOCSIS 3. They do tell me that it is their understanding that once the work does begin, conversion can be done for a large area within a few months. So, we could still be in the 2009 gameplan if they get their deployment teams down here soon! I'm not holding my breath!!!! | |

| 16/2 = Performance Plus in Fresno, CA I upped my Comcast connection to their "Performance Plus" tier about 6 weeks ago and I've been getting 16/2 (not power boost) the whole time. I was rather suprised as the Comcast guy I spoke to on the phone insisted it was a constant 16/2 connection as opposed to 8/2 + powerboost. I ignored his comments but sure enough - I get a steady 2MB/sec on all downloads... tested MANY times over via usenet, bittorrent, linux distros, etc etc.
Fresno, CA is the market. FYI this is not coined as "BLAST!" or anything like that on their website or from CS reps on the phone. This is still a 2 tier market.
Any thoughts? Is this happening elsewhere?

EPB keeps telling use we NEED fiber because there is no other way to get High speed internet. They imply if we do not have fiber NOW this very minute we will be come the next Detroit with massive un-employment and high crimes.
Maybe I would have more faith in EPB's intentions if Chattanooga's leadership was not so corrupt.
In the end it will be a win for the consumer until EPB slips costs over to the power side of the company.

That's the problem. It's a tourist town now. We have the VW plant coming now but the other day there was news that we will exceed our carbon foot print so we won't be able to grab any more large manufacturing businesses. It's still unknown what exactly we have spent to get VW to come to Chattanooga.
In the last few years several members of the city council have gone to jail. The last sheriff is in jail. If Chattanooga could only lose the good ol' boy network and little town mentality it would really flourish.

Have you went to the AT&T/Bell forum on this site? To think I am the most Anti-Death Star customer they have so far lol as only reason I even have service with them is because of 22/month for 6month ADSL 6mbps(8123kbps)/512kbps(508kbps) link. Soon as its over ill move with ComCRAP because of their upstream which is 2mbps here. As considering I upload TB that is Terabytes which you can't yet transmit or receive combined.
PS: I only support Verizon FiOS as they are superior compared to Death Star and ComCRAP combined.
