Leap, Clearwire Strike Wholesale Arrangement
New Five Year LTE Network Partnership
by Karl Bode 06:35PM Wednesday Mar 14 2012
Clearwire should benefit greatly from the fact that LightSquared's 35 wholesale partners are now looking for a new home. Clearwire has made it, uh, clear that the company is primarily now going to be a wholesale company with retail operations an afterthought. Today the company announced a new five year network sharing deal with Leap Wireless and Cricket, the second agreement Clearwire has signed for their upcoming LTE network. Clearwire says they should have the first 5,000 of these upgraded LTE sites operational by June of 2013. Leap meanwhile hopes to cover 25 million people with LTE by the end of 2012.

All these LS partners jumping ship grist for LS lawsuit

I am sure the new high powered lawyers LS hired will be using all these old LS partners going to competitors to try and get money in their lawsuit if, as expected, they can't get the FCC to change their mind.

and this is why Sprint should be a wholesale only company. If they spun off their actual retail customers and merge Clear into Sprint they'd make a killing as they would have no overhead and would not have to deal with the customers calling up and complaining about services; etc. Especially since basically everyone uses them for MVNE services.

That's actually a somewhat compelling thought these days. Tracfone just bested the major carriers in customer satisfaction. As much as I hate parts of how they handle porting, throttling and such, they could probably manage Sprint's customer base better than Sprint.

Of course they are good with customers. Give them 50 million customers and see how satisfied their customers are. When you are that small, you value every single one of your customers.

This is why I always emphasis that we need to have smaller carriers.

Tracfone already has 12 million subscribers in the US. Their parent company, America Movil, has 215 million worldwide. They are the 4th largest mobile provider in the world. Verizon is only the 18th largest in the world and AT&T the 20th largest. Sprint isn't even in the top 20. I think Tracfone can safely handle 50 million customers.

I think not. I've had extensive experience working for small companies and large companies such as Cisco. All of the small companies bend over backwards for their customers. The large companies say take it or leave it.

I was saying that the Tracfone that bested Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in customer satisfaction is no small company. In fact, they're larger than AT&T and Verizon *combined*! America Movil, who runs Tracfone, has 215 million customers. Tracfone is just one of their US brands. NET10 is another. When you call their customer service, you're talking to America Movil.

Leap & Cricket

Karl- why do you keep claiming that Leap and Cricket are 2 different companies/ The PR does NOT state that nor does the Leap website. The PR ONLY says that Leap owns them. That is IT. stop spreading the BS and blog correctly.

Clear's retail has *always* been an afterthought

Clear has treated its retail side like an afterthought since the day it was launched.
