A lot of questions stillApparently it does include support for DLNA servers, so I can continue using my TVersity/PlayOn combo that I use to stream to my 360.
However, it doesn't seem to have any way to interact with what's on TV if you're OTA only. Not unless you have a separate DVR (ie TiVo). Can I use this with my Windows Media Extender? Very unlikely.
It can't tell your DVR to record either, unless you're on Dish.
Frankly, I think this is a bit underwhelming. I'll wait for 2.0.

They basically priced themselves out of the market from the start. Consider that you can get an Apple TV now for $99 and the forthcoming Boxee Box from D-Link at $199 both of which offer equal or better functionality IMO that the Revue.

Yes you can it includes an IR blaster Plus it has HDMI IN so that your dvr or other attached cable or sat box will show through the google tv .
No other htpc or roku or boxee box has that (the hdmi in i mean).
Also since a lot of cable operators offer android apps to control the dvr anyway it only take themn maybe a week to add the full intergration to the google tv because google tv IS android.
The android store will be added to google tv devices first part of 2011.
Keep in mind oct 12 sony will have a press conference detailing their tv's with google tv embedded and their blu-ray player with google tv embedded.

I guess that saves you from having to switch inputs on the TV or receiver to view another device, but it's hardly ground breaking.

said by tiger72:Frankly, I think this is a bit underwhelming. I'll wait for 2.0. That's understating things. This thing offers all the features a PS3/XBox does for the same price, yet zilch for extra features. Hell, there's no Amazon video on demand even. Fail.

so uninterestingis there a single compelling feature on this thing? if they want interest, drop it to 99 bucks. this thing is going to flop the way it's currently pitched. my wdtv live is my htpc substitute in my man cave. had high hopes for something good. very underwhelmed.

What a waste!Your telling me that Sony can incorporate all that into a TV but cant put Netflix support into the PS3 without the disc??!?! WTF?
Also, why not just put all that functionality in the PS# to begin with. I am tired of buying new devices to do the same things with hardly anymore features that I currently have.
PS3 has a DLNA media player, thats all most of us need. No way I am spending more than $50 for a device that done little more than the little Roku!
Good luck!
By the way I am so glad that Logitech is the first company out with the box. They are a horrible tech company and should just stick to webcams! HAHA why would you announce that at a presser, millions and millions of webcam's! WHO CARES?!?
|

Re: What a waste! This is more . It is android. The android store will be coming in 2011. This also has hdmi in which NO OTHER BOX HAS .Not even htpcs or the ps3.
Also Sony has a press conference on oct 12 showing off their google tv enabled blu-ray player. So wait to badmouth google tv till after that price has been announced.
This logitech one is expensive because of its specs. It has a 1.2 ghz atom and 4gigs of ram plus the required stuff to have hdmi in.
Keep in mind the hdmi cards that allow hdmi in are like $199 for a pc and thats without hdcp which this has. I am also guessing the harmony stuff embedded is what also drives up the price.

No one is going to buy this underwhelming product for a promise of what it MAY do more than a year from now. In two years, it's due for upgrade/replacement anyway. Apple already has the (admittedly limited) AppleTV for which they may be switching on an App Store any day now. And as someone who has owned an iPhone and currently an Android phone, I have MUCH higher expectations for the quality of AppleTV apps than I do for Android TV apps.

Where di you get that? So far apple said they might have an app store for apple tv. Keyword might didnt it take them a second gen of iphones for an app store to appear?

No need to wait, its Sony and that tells you right there its expensive, no doubts!
Tell me why I care about what is coming in 2012 when its 2010? I think I will hold my $300 for now.
HDMI IN? Once again is a nothing feature, the Revue controls the DISH Network STB by IR blaster and eliminates that SOOOO difficult problem of changing inputs on your TV to watch the selected item on the Google TV.
The true price should be around $79 to have any real traction anyways... Just wait there are so many players in this game that other options are more viable anyways!
Logitech makes good webcams nothing else! They even screw up mice and keyboards! HAHA

Re: What a waste!NO the ir blaster changes the channel when going into the guide when clicking on something. The ir blaster is not needed to change sources.
The dvr or cablebox is shown through the googletv so no changing sources needed AT ALL.
By default what shows is your tv channel or cablebox. Then yo upress a button and the google tv menu comes up overlaying whats showed on the hdmi in.
Also imade a typo its first part of 2011 for the android store. which means all android apps that you have on your phone wil lright away work on this box.
|
| | | | |
Re: What a waste!Yes, the IR blaster is used to control the tuner and what is output through the HDMI to the Google TV box. This is all bullshit.
There are no value add's for the added $200 i'm paying on top of the Apple TV or Roku.
This product will be just another FAIL in the tech history books.
If you read the other opinions here you would see this clearly a 1.0 and there will have to be MAJOR improvements via HARDWARE not software.

Talk to NetFlix and MSFT about the PSx and the Disc. Wii is the same way. xBox is the only one that does not require the disc to be in.

Seems expensive and underloadedI'd rather go with Apple TV for $99, at least you get capability to watch HD movies, TV series from iTunes on your big screen. At $200 saved dollars difference I have some things to watch there over a year. In addition I have Xbox 360 with WM Extended, Netflix. So I am quite set

Well, NO RECORDING, NO SALE! (obvious, DUH).If it cannot record, far lower value (wouldn't buy it, let me know when it records to an attached HDD or something)

What about advertisements? The one thing no one mentioned so far is ADVERTISEMENTS.
Google TV is supposed to be an ad delivery device. This is the basis for Google's existence and most of their revenue. Will this device intersperse ads before, within and/or after delivery of content? I haven't seen any comments from Google, or anyone else, about this.

How is it worth it?Is this the same stuff that the people in the beta are seeing? I'm not paying $300 to watch shows and plus I doubt it's full shows anyways.
