As London gears up for the 2012 Olympics the city's second largest cap company is preparing to offer free Wi-Fi in all of their vehicles. According to the Inquirer, Greentomatocars will install individual SIM cards in each of their 300 cabs, with each vehicle providing users download speeds of up to 7.2Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 2Mbit/s (the UK has yet to install LTE -- anywhere). "London has long been recognised as a hub for technological innovation. In 2008 it was named the WiFi capital of the world and in 2012 I think it would be fair to say it's now the free WiFi capital," insists the company. Whether the Wi-Fi remains in place after it has impressed Olympic visitors is unclear.
Apparently your sarcasm detector needs to be serviced. It is a general statement about how telcos are ignoring backhaul issues while advertising completely unachievable numbers.
I hope they're using fiber run ethernet, that one 100m max distance over copper just won't cut it -- Change the scheme, alter the mood! Electrify the boys and girls if you'd be so kind.
