MOTOROLA GETS ANTITRUST CLEARANCE TO BUY NETOPIA

Telecom gear maker Motorola was to buy broadband equipment maker Netopia for USD 7 a share in a deal valued at USD 208 million. Motorola has finally received the green signal with the antitrust clearance from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to acquire Netopia.

The FTC has alloed the early termination on the waiting period required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust law.

With this acquisition, Motorola gains Netopia’s expertise in copper-based broadband product portfolio including wired and wireless modems, routers and gateways. Its North American customers include telecom players such as BellSouth, Covad Communications, EarthLink, AT&T and Verizon Communications.
