Blog 'newyork' » MTA Under Fire For Not Spending $391 Million Slated For Security Friday Mar 18 2005 21:40 EDT MARCH 18TH, 2005 As the Metropolitan Transportation Authority demands more funding to keep trains moving, officials admitted Friday they still haven't spent the money they have to secure the subway system more than three years after September 11th. “This takes time, because this is not money that you want to willy-nilly spend,” said MTA spokesman Tom Kelly. Shortly after the terrorist attacks, MTA officials found they needed to invest $1 billion on new security measures. So, the state allocated $591 million to the MTA budget, including $143 million in federal funds. But so far very little of the money has been spent. NY1 « back
