Antitrust lawsuit seeks class action status....
A Missouri man has filed an antitrust suit against Time Warner Cable and Time Warner because they force him to rent a cable box instead of allowing him to purchase one from an independent company, reports the
Kansas City Star. "Time Warner's improper tying and bundling harms competition", Meeds' lawsuit states. "Since the class can only rent the cable box directly from Time Warner, manufacturers of cable boxes are foreclosed from renting and/or selling cable boxes directly to members of the class at a lower cost." Sure, he could just get a TiVO and CableCARDs, but Time Warner Cable's implementation of switched digital video
has made that impossible for some users in the area.
