Also delivers upstream Powerboost...

Several users write in to note that Cable operator Mediacom has increased the ppload speed on the "flagship" 8Mbps Mediacom Online package from 512kps to 768kps. It's not much, but most users will take whatever they can get on the upstream side of the aisle. The slight bump is confirmed by a Mediacom employee in a thread in our Mediacom forum. It looks like Mediacom has also implemented Powerboost on the upstream side of user connections. Powerboost is a popular technology that significantly ramps up the downstream and/or upstream speed of a user's connection for the first few moments of a major download or upload.

PowerBoost

So PowerBoost is basically throttling by another name? Sniff. Ahh, yes, the smell is sweet indeed.

Re: PowerBoost

Inverse throttling if you will. It's useful at tims, though speed tests at that point become capacity tests for your node rather than accurate reflections of what your speed is to the internet.

Re: PowerBoost

I imagine upload power boost would be very handy with Remote Desktop or VNC.

not really, it only activates during large file uploads for about 20secs then drops out.

In my area (Comcast) the upload PowerBoost is only to about 3 Mbit, so not much better than your usual 2 Mbit. Which is decent-ish anyway for even hungry protocols like VNC.

Re: Online MAX

Looks to me like the 10/1 service is better than my 20/2 service which I am paying more for!!!! Why not give the 20/2 sevice powerboost???? At least that would be fair!

There is a faster tier

Medicom has had 20/2 for awhile now.

RE: Online MAX

I get 16/1.5 for a 20/2? lol

I normally don't complain, but when you get free upgrades for the 20 dollar connection.

Re: RE: Online MAX

Same here... I get about 19/1.5 with the max service...not even the full 2mbps upload. We're paying $60/month for this why can't we get web boost too?

What about intro

As a user on a budget, I'm mostly happy with the download but, Would it kill the network if they turned the upload to 384 or 512?

Mediacom blah

That's nice but it ain't much and it sure doesn't make up for the crappy service. Actually... the internet worked most of the time but more so the cable tv that had problems. It would be nice if a technician actually came out when they said they would have a technician come out. I think the only thing the techs do around here is connect the service and will never return again. AT&T may be slower but it works a lot more often than mediacom and if something does go wrong, it's usually not a problem to get a same or next day technician.

everything, everywhere

should be 1 megabit or above by now (uplolad & download).. if not, it's not broadband, just internet access.
