Mediacom Latest To Offer Home Security Service
Joining a Huge List of ISPs Now In The Market
by Karl Bode 08:27AM Friday Jul 05 2013
Following on the heels of AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Cox, DirecTV and others, Mediacom is the latest broadband and TV provider to try their hand at the home security game. According to a company announcement, Mediacom has partnered with Comporium Communications to offer home security and automation gear that will be provided by iControl -- the same company that offers security and automation services for Comcast' Xfinity Home and Time Warner Cable's IntelligentHome services. The company has yet to announce how much their services will cost, or when they'll be available to consumers.

Easy path to follow

These companies will follow their own example by raising the rates on their home security packages annually, only to realize later that they cannot blame the rising costs on content creators.

Which is not a bad thing for those using only other services from the cable company.
Any thing to spread out the cost of the last mile connection.

Achilles heel

Now that you have one the so called Cable TV companies security systems and the power goes out.
Now what the battery backup in the alarm runs out and the Cable is of course runs on grid power now what.

No alarm, no phone no TV. Wow what a predicament has you investment is broken into and burns down,

Would you invest in cable TV?

What's your point?

All security systems have a backup battery that can be depleted if the power outage is long enough. The iControl platform that the cable companies use all come with cellular connectivity at no additional charge in case your internet connection goes out.

Or if someone cuts the coax cable line!

Can't speak for the other (cable) co., but Comcast DOES have cellular backup standard on all their security packages...

Ah. I know a couple's place who can't get cellular due to their rural hilly places. Hence, why they still use landlines.

All cable MSOs that offer the iControl Converge platform offer cellular at no additional charge. They also will not install the system at your premises if you do not have adequate cellular coverage.

No the product was not designed to work over phone lines. There are two pre-requisites if you want to sign up for this product. You need a broadband connection (some will require one from their own company, others are more lax and will allow any broadband connection), and good cellular reception in your home.

Does anyone use these cable's home security services?

I don't know of anyone who do. All I see is a lot of ADT like my friends, neighbors, relatives, parents, strangers, etc. :O
