Global Capacity has announced that they've acquired Megapath's Network Services business unit for an undisclosed sum. According to the company announcement, (pdf) the deal will "create a $300 million company focused on making it simpler, more cost-effective and more efficient for customers to buy network connectivity in today’s increasingly complex $318 billion global data connectivity market." MegaPath will in turn become Global Capacity's largest wholesale customer after the deal closes sometime next year. Roughly 300 Megapath network operations employees are expected to join Global Capacity, though the elimination of some redundant positions is likely.
You were wrong - after buying up a truckload of small, local ISPs Megapath merged with Covad and Speakeasy (owned by Best Buy) about 4 years ago, I think. I was running a Speakeasy-originated (Covad) ADSL2+ as my secondary (backup) line until last year; it was working fine for many-many years, it's just they couldn't price match TWCB offfering so I switched after almost a decade (one way or another I had Speakeasy for over 10 years.)
I was a long time Covad customer back in the day. Had no options at my address. i was so impressed at how they treated me knowing they had more over a barrel. then MegaCrap took over and it all went downhill. constant service issues & alarm's & they would always blame it on my CPE. never could get them to preform a loop back test. i still have a stack of smart jacks in my basement from the adventure with them. i was so ecstatic when my contract was up i thought about throwing a party bigger than the royal wedding!
Karl- not true. MegaPath sold their Wholesale Unit to GC. NOT anything else. MegaPath will still be in business selling their services to their regular customers and have kept things such as their voice product close to them.
