Megapixel war over?
Features, not pixels are the next frontier
by tmpchaos Tuesday 01-Nov-2005
According to VNUNET, industry sources have said
The development of relatively cheap 5-megapixel compact cameras has effectively ended the long running 'megapixel war', leaving manufacturers to focus on features rather than resolution, industry sources have told vnunet.com.

Better Late Then Never!

About time isn't the word. They should have done this almost a year ago atleast!

Me too...

Heck. I had to pay what I felt was a small fortune for a camera that was 4 megapixals and could hardly be called compact. A lot has happened since then, even with the type of SLR-like camera I bought. Inexpensive 5 megapixal cameras with features would be a boon to everyone and I expect we shall see far more taking place within just another year's time. I look forward to buying one of those cameras to come.

This problem wasn't all the manufacture's fault!

Yes, they intially said "1 megpixel is better than none", and then the next manufacture would say "My two megapixel is better than your one megapixel" and we as consumers bought in to it and are still buying into it. This is a good step forward but the average consumers probably won't be paying much attention, they want the next one with 200 megapixels.

There'll always be someone...

...who will put out a higher MP sensor just so they can claim to have it. But it seems the trend is at least where it should be now. Thank goodness. So does this mean I can get that coffee making 5MP compact P&S for Christmas 2006?
